Abstract

A device for picking up faeces from a surface comprises an open-ended bag made of a flexible impervious material with a pad of resilient material attached to at least one side of the closed end 102 of the bag 100. The presence of the pad 103 of resilient material reduces the unpleasant sensation of picking up dog faeces but provides a wiping action on the surface from which the faeces is being removed, thereby increasing the efficiency of its removal. The device can also be use by parents of young children. Preferably the pad is made from a resilient plastic foam or fibrous material such as shredded paper or cloth. The pad may be enclosed in a flexible membrane made from a plastics material and may be attached to both sides of the bag. The bag may have two opposing projections 104 at the open end of the bag to facilitate the closure of the bag 100 after it has been used.

Description

FAECES PICK-UP BAG
The present invention relates to the removal of faeces from surfaces.
Increasingly, the owners of dogs are required to remove any faeces that they produce in public places. A number of devices for this purpose exist, but the most commonly used is a bag made of impervious plastics material In use the person exercising the dog concerned places his or her hand in the bag, grasps the faeces, pulls it into the bag, then removes his or her hand from the bag and ties a knot in the bag to seal it. This procedure 0 is effective, but many people find the sensation of grasping the faeces extremely unpleasant.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an enclosure means which is adapted to facilitate the removal of faeces from a surface.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device for facilitating the removal of faeces from a surface, comprising an openended bag made of a flexible impervious material wherein there is attached to at least one side of the closed end of the bag a pad of resilient material. 2)
Preferably, the bag is made of a plastics material. The pad of resilient material may be made of a resilient plastics foam or a wad of fibrous material such as shredded paper or cloth, which may be enclosed in a membrane of plastics film.
The invention and its mode of use will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a longitudinal sectional view of an embodiment of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, a device for facilitating the removal of faeces from a surface consists of an open-ended bag lOO made from a flexible plastics material such as polythene. Attached to one surface 101 of the closed end 102 of the bag 100 is a pad 103 of resilient material such as a resilient plastics film. The open end of the bag 100 is formed into two opposed projections 104 to facilitate the closure of the bag 100 after it lo has been used. If so desired the projections 104 may be omitted and the bag 100 closed by twisting it followed by knotting.
In use, the bag is opened with the pad 103 of material on the outside, the person who is exercising the dog concerned, places his or her hand in the bag, grasps the faeces in the usual way, pulls and ties the projections 104 together to seal the bag 100 with the faeces inside it, again in the usual way. The presence of the pad 103 of material not only reduces the unpleasant sensation involved in picking up the faeces, but provides a wiping action on the surface from which the faeces is being removed, thus increasing the efficiency of its removal from the said surface.
If so desired, pads of resilient material can be attached to both sides of the bag. Also, although the prime function of the invention is the removal of dog faeces from the surface of paths and play areas, it equally can be used by the parents of young children.
