Abstract
A solid glass sphere B is held to the eye A to view a point of light D sufficiently bright to shine a clear circle C of diffuse light across the sphere to the area immediately in front of the eye of the observer. It has been found that if there is a fault in the lense of the eye of the observer it will make a shape on the diffuse circle of light which is the shadow E of any obstruction in the lense, casting itself on to the retina at the back of the eye.
Description
24 1 0338 Diagnostic Lense Looking through a solid glass sphere I had on
my table in the living room first with one eye and then the other at the lights on my Christmas tree I noticed that the images of the diffuse light cast on the back of the sphere nearest my eye from the Christmas tree lights, was a complete circle when viewed with my left eye, but revealed a spoke-like pattern to my right eye like a clock face with the minute hand on 01.30 and the hour hand, much fainter on 02.30 After an eye test, the optometrist told me that l had some deterioration in the tense of my right eye & the beginnings of a cateract were casting a shadow on my retina.
Cateracts for a typical spoke-like configuration & the actual damage was on the 07.30 x 08 30 "dial" of my tense - the image being reversed in its transit across the interior of the eye What the light source & solid glass sphere revealed was whether or not someone has some fault in the front of the eye as opposed to any sustained at the back of it on the retina Please see drawing, where A is the eye B is the sphere C are the reflected & diffused images on the Christmas tree and D the lights on the tree All the images of the lights were identical i.e. a complete circle when viewed by the left eye & "spoked" when viewed with the right eye see E I noticed this "fractal pattern" of lights reflected through raindrops on the bus window when travelling in traffic where headlights were approaching in the opposite direction, when I viewed them with my right eye alone, so the device of the light or lights seen through the glass lense/sphere just clarified how my vision changed. Kin
A = The eye B = Solid glass ball C = Reflexion of light from Christmas tree D = Christmas tree lights E = What my right eye saw reflected in the projected diffused circle of light from the Christmas tree.
Claims (2)
1 A solid glass sphere & sufficiently bright light source to project a clear but diffuse circle of light across the sphere furthest from the light source
2. When the observer is looking at a light of sufficient brightness to make a clear suffused circle of light on the back of the solid glass sphere, first with one eye and then the other, he or she can see an image of his or her tense of the eye If there is a fault in the tense, that image will be projected as a shadow on the retina at the back of the eye - thus giving a means of clarifying the shape of the obstruction in the lense which might affect vision.
