Abstract

A scoring device that allows a user eg. a player, official or spectator to record and display the score for a variety of sporting games while the game is in progress. The device may be carried, worn or attached to a piece of sports equipment. Preferably the device has a body 10 with a catch 19 mounted allowing the device to be attached to various sports equipment, carried or worn by the user eg. sweatband for use in a wide variety of sports eg. badminton, tennis, squash. The device may have display panels (17a, 17b, Fig 4) as a visible record of the score and a separate display panel (18, Fig 4) to display additional functions such as a timepiece, timer, alarm, handicap scoring system, memory function. The device may have input buttons of different colours to represent opposing teams/players.

Description

SPORTS SCORER
This invention relates to a device that will enable scores to be recorded and displayed for a variety of sports/games, the device can be carried, worn or attached/inserted to a piece of sports equipment.
Sporting activities are by their very nature competitive, and as a result it is not unusual for confusion to occur with regards to the state of play or score between opposing players/teams. This can lead to interruption, confusion or arguments and as a direct result spoil the enjoyment of participating in the game.
This device will enable the user - be it participating players, officials or spectators to maintain an accurate record of the state of play as the game is in progress, thereby avoiding confusion and disagreement and adding to the enjoyment of the game.
Preferably the invention provides a device which will be of a sufficient size, and light enough to enable it to be carried, worn, inserted /affached to a piece of sporting equipment. Accordingly to allow it to be operated without causing inconvenience or interference to the operator while participating in a sporting activity.
The present invention will have the capability to withstand shocks and adverse weather conditions without affecting its efficiency.
It is envisaged that the Sports Scorer should have the facility to incorporate additional functions e.g. timepiece, timer, alarm, handicap scoring system, memory function etc. A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 illustrates Sports Scorer as a separate item with its constituent parts illustrated and named.
FIGURE 2 shows position of fastener to allow device to be secured onto sports equipment.
FIGURE 3 shows the Sports Scorer attached to racquet handle.
*N.B. for purpose of illustration the Sports Scorer is shown attached to tennis racquet, but Sports Scorer could be adapted for use in a wide variety of sports and games and secured to a variety of sports equipment.
FIGURE 4 shows the Sports Scorer being worn, attached to a wristband.
As shown in figure 1, the Sports Scorer comprises of a body lo with operating buttons 11(a)(b), 12(a)(b), 14(a)(b), 15,16 positioned around the perimeter.
*N.B. buttons ((a) and (b) represent opposing teams/players.
The buttons (a) (b) and are differently coloured respectively to represent opposing players/teams for easy identification.
Display panels 17(a) and 17(b) provide a visible record of the score selected by user.
Centre display panel 18 provides additional functions timepiece, alarm etc. Figure 2 shows position of catch 19, enables the Sports Scorer to be attached to sports equipment as shown in figure 3 and figure 4.
Figure 3 shows the catch 19 being used to attach Sports Scorer to wristband.
Figure 4 shows the catch 19 attaching Sports Scorer to racquet.

Claims (4)

1 A Sports Scorer comprising of a device which can be attached to a piece of sporting equipment or worn to provide a record and a display of a sports score and state of play of a variety of games while participating in the sporting activity without interrupting play.
2 Sports Scorer as claimed in Claim 1 where a catch is provided to allow the device to be to have the option of being attached to a piece of sports equipment, (racquet, bat, wristband, etc.), or alternatively, allow itself to be removed and be used as a separate item.
3 A Sports Scorer as claimed in Claim 1 where buttons situated on device are operated to mord and display score of a sporting activity while game is in progress.
4 Display panels as claimed in any Claim 1 or Claim 3, which give a visible record of state of play.
A Sports Scorer substantially as herein described above and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
