Abstract

A removable frame for covering the surround of a screen 1 such as a television or computer screen, comprises a front part 2 and a rear part 3 that can be used separately or in conjunction with one another. The frame preferably attaches to the surround of the screen 1 either by a clip-on system, a sub-frame or by adjustable brackets 4. The appearance of the frame may vary in texture, colours and patterns and may include advertising, company logos or other indicia (figs 6 and 7). The frame preferably includes slots or holes 8 in the cover to provide ventilation and it may be used to cover peripherals such as video and stereo equipment and wiring.

Description

, 2409563 Display Screen Device Cover The invention is a removable cover

for digital display screen devices.

Digital display screen devices, display images in a variety of media. One of these devices is the plasma screen, as a particular example. They are sold with a standard frame, nominally displaying the manufacturer's name.

Currently the appearance of the device's frame is limited to the individual design of the particular manufacturer. Most frames have a bland look and act as a backdrop to the actual images being displayed on the screen.

A removable display screen device cover would give choice to the appearance of the frame around the screen. This could be done partially or completely, the cover comprising or carrying decorative or ornamental adaptations. The Customisation can be achieved by applying textures, colours, pattems, logos and text. This lists is by no means exclusive.

Preferably the Display Screen Device Cover is made of a plastics material but may be made of from other suitable material. The cover may be opaque, translucent or transparent. The appearance of the cover may vary in textures, colours and patterns that can be combined to suit individual taste. This lists is by no means exclusive.

For example, a transparent, translucent or similar, front and back cover could be fitted within the covers with lights to change the appearance, use and even function of the covered plasma screen.

The display screen device cover may also house the display device peripherals to which it is connected. A flat screen television for example could include video, stereo equipment and winng.

Incorporating slots or holes on top and bottom of the cover might provide ventilation.

Figure 1 shows a wall-mounted device. A secondary front frame (2) could be fixed to the wall itself or to the aperture (1) with a special clip-on system.

Figure 2 shows a freestanding or free-hanging screen that would need a frame comprising of at least two elements, a font cover (2) and a back cover (3). They could be fixed direct to the screen (1) or via sub-frame.

Figure 3 shows a moulded front cover (2). It can be fixed around the aperture in different ways as described above. Optionally the aperture (1) could be covered with a temporary cover element made of transparent or translucent material that would be fixed to the front cover (2). The width of the front cover (2) may be of a suitable dimension to cover areas extended beyond the existing screen framework to provide concealment of other associated apparatus such as DVD, VCR & lights. In this case the housing may incorporate additional support for such apparatus.

Figure 4 shows the back cover (3) of a freestanding or free-hanging device. This again may be of a rigid or semi-rigid flexible plastics material adapted to cover parts of a display screen (1) and its additional associated apparatus if necessary. 2

Figure 5 shows an installation including a Plasma Screen (1) by an existing manufacturer with front cover (2) and back cover (3) in a detailed section.

The front cover is attached to the screen by movable, adjustable brackets (4). The brackets are fixed to the front cover by a fixing plate Figure 6 and 7 show examples of using the cover for promotion in a commercial way. The front cover (2) and/or back cover (3) may carry decorative or advertising information. In this way a simple commercially available plasma screen can be personalized to the location or owner. The back cover presents the biggest surface for this use. The front-fame on the other hand is positioned close to the screen itself and therefore in direct view of a potential audience. The size, shape and dimensions of the display device screen cover may vary depending upon the size, shape and dimensional requirements of the display device being housed. Similarly, the number of housing sections depicted by Figure 1 and Figure 2 may differ, as would the method of attachment.

Claims

Claims -3 1. A removable cover made from rigid/semi-rigid plastics

material, designed to cover the surround of digital display screens. The cover has two parts, that can be used separately or in conjunction with one another. One to cover the front frame of the screen and another to cover the rear of the screen.
2. A cover as claimed in Claim 1 that attaches to the display screen either via a clip on system, a sub-frame or adjustable brackets.
3. A cover as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, of which the appearance may vary in textures, colours and patterns.
4. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim which incorporates slots or holes on top and/or bottom of the cover to provide ventilation.
5. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim that may also house the display screen peripherals.
6. A cover as claimed in any preceding claim that may vary in exact size or shape, dependent on the screen to be housed.
7. A cover as substantially herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
