Abstract

A work surface 2 is fixed to a wall using two extrusions, the lower of which 3 is attached to the wall, e.g. by screws, and the upper of which co-operates so as to receive work surfaces 2 of varying thicknesses. As shown, serrations 8 on male formation 9 may co-operate with serrations 5 in female groove 4 to fix the two extrusions about the surface 2; moisture seals 12 and 10 may be provided.

Description

Work Bench florins method3 expanding The present invention relates to a
new method of allowing kitchen and work bench tops, but not exclusively, to be fixed to the walls of kitchen and office etc. in such a way as to eliminate the need to use a fixing timber member to the wall to carry the bench top and then having to fix the pieces of wood to the bench top.
The present method of fixing bench tops relies on the kitchen units or a timber strip to support the bench top and then a silicone seal being applied to the bench top and the wall, this is supposed to eliminate water travelling to the chip board edge and to leave a neat finish This finish invertible gets dirty and splits allowing water to get to the chipboard edge.or clip on finishing strips that have to be sealed ontop of the bench topstopping the possiblility of removing the bench top without considerable effort It is the object ofthe present invention to obviate or mitigate the above problems.
According to the first aspect of the present invention there is provided two extruded members, possible out of P.V.C,u but not exclusively, the shaped members are divided into two separate extrusions that clip together to form a expandable receiver or groove that can take any size of material from 25mm to 42rorn thereby covering the majority of thickness of bench tops manufactured, the base extrusion is affixed to a wall or similar, this carries the bench top weight and eliminates any need for a timber carrier orsimiler, the second extrusion is clipped into the base extrusion in such a way that it will trap any thickness of bench top, sealing it to the bench top due to the serrated fir tree configurations, this top extrusion can at any time be removed if required, such as to change to new bench tops A further aspect ofthe invention is that ofthe two extrusions, extrusion 1, the top extrusion, has a male insertion with a fir tree type teeth this is inserted into extrusion 2 the female extrusion that is a U shaped receiver for extrusion 1, suitable shaped to receive the fir tree extrusion, the firtree can be on one face or two faces of both ofthe U shaped extrusions.
Further aspect of the invention is that the top extrusion 1 can be finished in the colour or coating required or any configuration in shape or mouding Further aspect ofthe invention could be that the top extrusion con be the U shaped female shape and the bottom extrusion could be the male shape.
According to the present invention the extrusion member will fix directly to the wall eliminating any need for supporting members, It also provides a waterproof seal to the bench top and wall requiring no silicone or other water sealing methods.
A further aspect of the invention can be that a flexible strip can be moulded to the top extrusion at the wall edge thereby allowing the shape of the wall to be taken up.
Further aspect ofthe invention is that it can be extruded in any type of plastic, metal, Or Slml. ar.
A further aspect of the invention is that it can be screwed, using double sided tape to the wall, or silicone strips.
A further aspect of the top wall extrusion is that a single sided foam tape can be affixed to the groove or indentation in the underside ofthe horizontal arm that sits onto the bench top, to give added protection in place of high concentration of water or moisture, the foam film fitting down to the bench top soaks up any excess of liquids.
A further aspect ofthe invention can be a v shaped indentation in the underside ofthe horizontal base extrusion that receives the bench top, this gives a start and positioning point for the screw facing of the bench top, a similer v indentation can also be provided at the base of the vertical member to position the screwing of the extrusion to the wall.
The present invention is a unique way of supporting a bench top for kitchens and offices and similar situations. rip
I intend to describe the above specification and driving below.
Fig 1, shows a cross section arid elevation of the present invention exploded Fig 2 shows a cross section ant elevation in the closed position.
Fig 3. shows a cross, section and elevation in the expanded position, Fig 1. shows the extruded basel' and female 1. receiver section 4, and the possible bench top member2, in situ, the back of the vertical part of the female extruded member that presses against the wall, is recessed 3, to allow the seating of vertical member 3, to sit correctly against a wall or similar, the fir tree type impressions or teethS, the IJ section4, engage with the fir tree impressions or teeth 8, on the top male extruded section 9, thereby allowing the expanding and contracting of the combined extrusions 1, ant 9, a V shaped groove 6, allows a start and positioning for a screw to be fastened into the bench top 2, similarly a V shaped impression is provided at 7, a mould or shaping 11, can be formed on the top horizontal face of the female member, an indentation 13 is provided to receive an adhesive foam implant 10, if required, to seal against the bench top, a preformed so* plastic seall2, is attached to the top external corner of the extrusion 9 to take up any contours on the wall being fixed to' Pig 2 shows the extrusion!, and Ugroove 4, receiving the extrusion 9 and the male verticalmember9, combined in the contracted position, whereby the male members, is depressed into the female extrusion 1, by means of the fire tree or teeth8/5, interacting together TO form a number of set positions or grooves that can receive a variety of thicknesses of freestanding boerds2.
Fig 3. shows the extrusion!, and Ugroove 4, receiving the extrusion g and the male verticalmember9, combined in the expanded position, whereby the male members, is depressed Into the female extrusion 1, by means of the Ore tree or teeth8/S, interacting together to form a number of set positions or grooves Mat can receive a variety of thicknesses of freestanding boards2.
