Abstract

A weight 3, which is used to hold an angler's line on the bottom of a body of water, contains a spring loaded pin 1. The fishing line is retained in a groove 2 by the pin which is held in place by the spring 8. When a strain is placed on the cord 5 the pin is withdrawn allowing the line to come free. The weight can then be retrieved from the water by pulling in the cord.

Description

TETHERED BACK LEAD
The invention is a weight which is used to hold an angler's fishing line on the bottom of the lake or river.
Such weights are in common use but suffer from the disadvantage that they are often lost or become trapped in weed etc., and remain attached to the fishing line until removed by the angler.
The object of this invention is to provide a weight which can be attached to the f shing line at one end, and by any suitable means via a line or cord attached to the weight to the bank or any other fixed object.
This invention provides a weight containing a spring loaded pin with a ring to which is attached a cord or line' the purpose of which is to displace the pin and allow the fishing line to be released.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Sheet 1/1 Fig 1 shows side view of complete weight and pin assembly. The body 3 is made of any dense hard material and has groove 2 formed into it.
Contained within body 3 is a spring loaded pin 1 which is attached to a wire or rod 4 which has an attachment ring formed at opposite end to pin 1.
Fig I shows weight with pin held in place by spring 8 and screw in collar 6.
Fig 2 shows weight with pin withdrawn.
Fig 3 shows exploded view of back lead showing how it comes apart for cleaning.
Example
The weight is attached to the fishing line by withdrawing the pint and inserting the fishing line into the groove 2 and then allowing pin 1 to return, thus trapping the fishing line to groove 2. The weight is allowed the slide down the fishing line whilst attached to cord 5 until the weight comes to rest on the bed of the lake or river. The other end of cord 5 is then attached to any suitable device on the bank, When a fish "bites" or the angler decides to wind in the fishing line, cord 5 will tighten and pull ring 4 and pin 1 withdrawing pin I from groove 2 allowing fishing line to come free.
The weight will fall to the bed of the lake or river and is retrieved by cord 5.
Referring to sheet 1/1 Fig I shows a groove 2 in body 3 an alternative is shown on sheet 1/2 where there is no groove 2 in body 3, but a loop 7 is formed instead. This loop 7 mav alternatively be constructed of any suitable hard material resistant to wear.
On sheet 1/2 Figs 5,6 and 7 show alternate views. 2.
