Abstract

A motor vehicle price display board (1) comprising a substantially planar body (11) having a recessed front face (14) in which indicia (24) may be mounted, a stand (12) and a friction hinge (18) interconnecting the board (11) and stand (12) for holding the body (11) at different inclinations to the stand. The hinge (18) is preferably mounted to the front edge margin (16) of the stand and is secured to the bottom edge of the body (17). The body (11) may be fitted with an aperture though which a price display card can be viewed. The board (1) may be constructed of cardboard, twin flute plastics, or metal sheet.

This invention relates to an information display board which is usable for displaying information in particular price information and is especially for use in cars or commercial vehicles.

Background of the Invention

When displaying vehicles for sale, garages need to place notices displaying price information relating to specific vehicles on or in proximity to the vehicle. A known method of displaying the information is to place a notice board within a vehicle and which is mounted on the sun visor and or mirror. The notice typically hangs vertically downwards and in modern vehicles with inclined screens the notice may be well inside the car and difficult to read through the internal reflections in the glass.

Other methods of displaying information include placing the notice in a holder affixed to a vehicle window by suckers.

These method are unsatisfactory in that the notice may fall from the windows, visors etc. Yet another information board is shown in GB 2380 043.

The present invention provides a display board which is readily usable within a vehicle and easily adjustable to different rakes of windscreen or other windows of a vehicle.

Statements of Invention

According to the present invention there is provided a display board for use in a motor vehicle and comprising a substantially planar body having a recessed front surface in which indicia may be mounted for display, a stand, and a friction hinge interconnecting the stand with the body for holding the body at different inclinations relative to said stand.

The body may comprise one of a flat sheet of rigid paper cardboard, corrugated cardboard, plastics sheet, a high density polymeric foam, twin flute plastics or aluminium.

The stand may be substantially planar and may comprise a sheet of metal, preferably aluminium, having any desired outline.

The hinge is preferably mounted to the front edge of the stand and is secured to the bottom edge of the body.

The body has an aperture therein and recessed holder is located on the rear of the body in alignment with the aperture for holding pricing indicia for display through the aperture.

The invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is an isometric view of a display board according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is a side view of the adjustable board shown in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a part front elevation the display board.

Detailed Description of the Invention

With reference to Figs. 1 to 3, there is shown a display board 10 which comprises a planar body 11 and a stand 12 on which the body 11 is mounted by means of a friction hinge 18. A friction hinge has means exerting a friction load within the hinge that must be overcome before the parts of the hinge can rotate relative to each other.

The body l1 may be any desired shape and this case for example only is rectangular with a rear face 13 and a front face 14. The body ll is made from a light rigid material for example a plastics material such as PVC, polypropylene, pclycarbr:nate,ABS, or a polymeric rigid cellular material such as We flute sheet, cardboard or a light metal such as lumirlurn.

The stand 12 is also substantially planar and is preferably made from a metallic sheet material such as aluminium or sheet steel. The stand may have any desired outline and for this example only is rectangular in shape with rounded corners. The front edge margin 16 of the stand is connected to the bottom edge margin 17 of the body 11 by at least one friction hinge 18. The hinge 18 has two flaps 19, 20 each of which is secured to one of the rear face 13 of the board 11 and to the upper surface 21 of the stand by any suitable means such as adhesive, fasteners such as rivets, screws, etc..

The friction hinge 18 is substantially central in relation to the stand 12 and board 11 and permits the board 11 to be oriented at differing angles of inclination relative to the stand by application of a rotational load which overcomes the frictional grip within the hinge. Preferably the friction load within the hinge 18 which must be overcome to allow pivotal movement is adjustable.

The board 11 can display information carried thereon in any manner for example, cards displaying numbers that when read in ordered sequence indicate the sale price of a vehicle.

The holder is preferably for use on the inside of a vehicle adjacent the front screen or rear screen.

The board 11 has an elongated aperture 23 therein through which a price indicating device 24/25 mounted on the rear face 13 of the board can be viewed. A recessed holder 25 in which indicia bearing cards 24 can be mounted is attached to the rear face 13 of the board 11 by any suitable means, e.g adhesive, solvent welding etc. The cards are mounted within the recess in the holder and are viewed from the front of the board. Indicia cards 24 can be removed or added to the holder 25 from the front of the board 11 through the aperture 23.

The display board is utilised by placing the stand 12 on a suitable surface such as the top of the facie, rear parcel tray etc. and adjusting the inclination of the board 11 to holds the front face 14 close to the vehicle window glass.

The board is particularly suitable for use with vehicles having windscreens having a high degree of rake. The board is sufficiently light in weight and has sufficient rigidity that the stand holds the board in position. The stand may be provided with non-slip rubber pads. Clalm

Claims

1. A vehicle information display board comprising a substantially planar

body having a recessed front surface in which indicia may be mounted for display, a stand and at least one friction hinge interconnecting the stand with the body for holding the body at different inclinations to said stand.

2. A board as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the hinge is mounted to the front edge margin of the stand and is secured to the bottom edge margin of the body.

3. A board as claimed in Claim 1 & Claim 2 wherein the friction load in the hinge is adjustable.

4. A board as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 3 wherein the body has an aperture therein and a price display device is located on the rear face of the board and its indicia viewed through the aperture from the front of the board.

5. A board as claimed in Claim 5, wherein a recessed holder is located on the rear of the body in alignment with the aperture and which in use holds pricing indicia cards for display through the aperture.

6. A motor vehicle price display board and which 1S substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
