Abstract

A cleaning device 1 comprises a body of dust gathering material 2 with a handle 3, and rotation means 4. The rotation means is disposed inside the handle and is adapted to rotate the dust gathering material. The dust gathering material may be elongate in shape and the handle may extend from one end. The rotation means may comprise a rechargeable battery 7, a motor 8, and an operation button 10. The dust gathering material may be nylon fibres. The rotation means may be provided with more than one speed setting, or a variable speed setting.

Description

Rotating Duster This invention relates to a novel dusting device.
A feather duster commonly comprises a body of dust gathering material attached to a straight handle. The user holds the handle and applies the dusting material to a surface to gather dust. In use, the user can rotate the handle between their fingers and thumb, such that the dusting material is also rotated, which creates an effective dusting action.
In addition, the feather duster can be moved along the surface at the same time as it is rotated, in a single sweeping action, which can also be effective.
However, these dusting methods are restricted because the user cannot continually rotate the duster. In particular, the handle can only be rolled between the fingers and thumb through about 180 degrees before the user's grip has to be adjusted to start the motion again.
The present invention is intended to overcome some of the above problems.
Therefore, according to the present invention, a cleaning device comprises a body of dust gathering material, a handle extending therefrom and rotation means, in which the rotation means is disposed inside the handle, and is adapted to rotate the body of dust gathering material.
In a preferred construction the body of dust gathering material can be elongate in shape, and the handle can extend from one end. The handle may be substantially straight, and dimensioned to fit into a user's hand.
The dust gathering material can be any material adapted to collect dust.
Preferably a body of nylon fibres are used.
The rotating means can comprise a power supply, for example a battery, a motor and appropriate gearing. Rotating means of this type are well known, and any of the known arrangements can be used. An operation button can be provided on the handle.
In a preferred construction, the rotating means can rotate the body of dust gathering material at approximately the same speed as can be achieved when manually rotating a handle between the fingers and thumb. This speed is between about 80 and 120 revolutions a minute.
The invention can be performed in various ways, but one embodiment will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings. in which: Figure 1 is a cross-sectional side view of a cleaning device according to the present invention; and, Figure 2 is a perspective view of the cleansing device as shown in Figure 1.
In the Figures a cleaning device 1 comprises a body of dust gathering material 2, a handle 3 extending therefrom and rotation means 4, in which the rotation means 4 is disposed inside the handle 3, and is adapted to rotate the dust gathering material 2.
As is shown in the Figures, the body of dust gathering material 2 is elongate in shape, and the handle 3 extends from one end 5 of it.
The handle 3 comprises an outer casing 6, which is provided with a contoured shape adapted to fit into the hand of a user. The rotation means 4 inside the outer casing 6 comprises a rechargeable battery 7, a motor 8, a switch 9 with an operating button 10, and gears 11. A rotation arm 12 extends from the rotation means 4, and the body of dust gathering material 2 is mounted onto the rotation arm 12.
The gears 11 are adapted to rotate the rotation arm 12 at 100 revolutions a minute.
The outer casing 6 is provided with a first aperture 13, through which the operating button 10 protrudes and can be accessed by the user, and a second aperture 14, through which the rechargeable battery 7 can be connected to an appropriate charger (not shown).
The body of dust gathering material 2 is constructed from nylon fibres.
In use the battery 7 is charged, and the operation button 10 is depressed to operate the motor 8, which results in the rotation of the body of dust gathering material 2 in the direction of arrow A in Figure 2.
The body of dust gathering material 2 is then placed in contact with a surface to be cleaned (not shown), and the rotation of the body of dust gathering material 2 collects any dust on the surface.
Alternatively, the device 1 can be moved along the surface at the same time in a sweeping action.
The device 1 could be altered without departing from the spirit of the invention. For example, in an alternative embodiment (not shown), the rotation means Is provided with more than one rotation speed setting, or a variable speed setting.
Thus, a dusting device is provided which can provide a constant cleaning action, without the need to readjust one's grip. Clams
