Abstract

A cattle handling pen to fit into a race or through passage for driving animals. It comprises a frame with both a rear entry opening and a front self-locking head gate 1 that opens up for an exit gate. The head gate is formed from two vertical bars which are adjustable and form a head restraint for the animal. At the rear of the unit are gates 3 which close off the rear of the crush to hold the next animal back, leaving a safety area to accommodate the stockman. On either side of the crush or crate are two full height doors 2 which are attached by means of retractable locking bolts, which allow for the doors to be hinged from either side or be removed completely. Fitted along each side of the crush are a series of pivoted hanging devices which lock a bar which pushes through behind the animal to stop it backing up. The bar can be pushed forward under the no return hangers which drop down behind the bar.

Description

' 2406776 Cattle Crush
Description
This invention relates to a Cattle crush especially, but not exclusively, for use in the restraining of cattle and similar animals.
This invention relates to an animal anti-kick device especially, but not exclusively, for use in the restraining of cattle and similar animals. It is the object of the present invention to provide a device to fit onto a crush, which obviates or mitigates the disadvantages of the known prior art.
The crush is designed such that any user is unable to gain access to restrained animals in the crush other than using the access doors provided. The crush comprises of a front head yoke that restrains animals in the crush about the neck. On either side of the crush are two doors that run the full height of the crush. The doors are attached to the crush by means of retractable locking bolts. Each door has 4 bolts, one in each corner This allows the door to hinge independently in two directions or to be removed completely. A combination of door arrangements allows the side of the crush to be completely and free from obstruction giving safe access to the animal contained within.
At the rear of the crush are two smaller doors on either of the main frame. These doors can be opened and used to close off the rear of the crush thus impeding further ingress of livestock. The rear doors also give access to the rear of any animal contained within the crush.
Running the length of the crush's sides is a series of non-return fingers through which a metal pole can be slotted. The pole can then is pushed up behind an animal in the crush and hold it in place. The fingers are pivoted at the top and lift up as the pole is moved forward; returning to their normal position once the pole is past. They are inclined to stop the pole passing back through when pressure is applied to the bar.

The drawings A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the general arrangement of the Cattle Crush.
Figure 1 shows the head yoke restraint mechanism 1. The head yoke restraint comprises of two vertical bars that can be adjusted in the horizontal plane to fit the girth of various animal neck sizes.
Figure 1 shows the main side doors 2, a closed position.
Figure 1 shows the rear side door 3 in a closed position.

Claims (3)

  1. Claims 1. A Cattle crush for use with animals.
  2. 2. A Cattle crush as in any proceeding claim that has full-length side access doors.
  3. 3. A Cattle crush as in any preceding claim that is manufactured from metal so that it is strong and robust.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows What my claims are: 1/ A cattle crush comprising of a frame with both a rear entry opening and a front self-locking head gate that opens up for an exit gate. At the rear of the crush are two gates one on each side. These close off the rear of the crush to hold the next animal back and leaving a safety area between you and the rear of the animal in the crush. On each side of the crush are two full height access gate that are pivoted at either end allowing the gate to be opened independently for the middle to the outside or from the front to the middle giving you complete access to both side of the animal for belie clipping or inspection. A travailing bars arrangement has been put on the safe area both side and on the rear reversible doors on bow sides to stop animals coming backward from the front self-locking head gate.
2/ A cattle crush as claimed in 1 and wherein the front structure members hold the brackets for self- locking head gate.
3/ A cattle crush as claimed in I and wherein the rear structure members incorporate the hinge arrangements for the rear gates that close of the rear of the crush from either side this give you a safety area between the two side gates and the rear accesses gate at the rear of the animal to stand in.
4/ A cattle crush as claimed in 1 and wherein the two sides gate either side are pivoted by retractabl pins top and bottom allowing the gate to open from either end given safe access to the side of the animal.
5/ A cattle crush as claimed in 1 and wherein Travailing bars arrangement have been put on both side of the safe area and on the rear reversible door on both side to stop animals coming backward this allow you to push the bar forward towards the animal rear end. The bar travels under the no return hanger that drops down when the bar goes past and stops the bar from travailing backwards.
6/ Accesses to the animal though the sidebars on the main two side doors. Has been deliberately restricted to reduce arms being trapped or damaged when the animals are being injected or handled 7/These claim are described with reference to the drawing accompanying this application
