Abstract

A plurality of containers (5, 6, 7) are fixed together in a column and detachable one at a time therefrom, at least a first container containing an edible substance having a first colour, and a second container containing an edible substance having a second colour. The substances may be alcoholic drinks such as flavoured vodka. The containers (5,6,7) may be joined by screw-type connectors. The containers may contain edible substances of different colours such as to provide a random sequence of colours in the column, or a predetermined sequence of colours in the column.

Title: Containers for Edible Substances
Description of Invention
The invention relates to a column of containers containing edible substances of different colours.
Some edible substances, such as alcoholic beverages, are generally sold to customers in small quantities. In the case of spirits, such quantities are usually dispensed from a relatively large container, such as a bottle, into a glass.
to A trend is developing to pre-package such substances, into suitablysized containers. The containers may be arranged together to aid dispensing of the edible substances, and to be aesthetically appealing to customers.
The invention relates to a development in such pre-packaged containers for edible substances.
According to the present invention there is provided a plurality of containers fixed together in a column and detachable one at a time therefrom, wherein at least a first container contains an edible substance having a first colour, and a second container contains an edible substance having a second colour.
A third container may contain an edible substance having a third colour, and a fourth container may contain an edible substance having a fourth colour, and so on. Each container may contain a differently coloured edible substance.
Alternatively, at least a first set of two or more containers may each contain an edible substance having a first colour, and a second set of two or more containers may each contain an edible substance having a second colour.
The containers may contain edible substances of different colours such as to provide a random sequence of colours in the column. Alternatively, the containers may contain edible substances of different colours such as to provide a predetermined sequence of colours in the column. The predetermined l sequence of colours may emulate, for example, the sequence of colours found in traffic lights.
The colours may be chosen from the group comprising orange, blue, red, green, yellow, pink, or other colours. The colour of an edible substance may indicate information concerning the edible substance, for example the flavour of the edible substance. One or more of the containers may contain an alcoholic beverage, for example a flavoured vodka.
Each container may be manufactured from a substantially transparent material, for example plastic or glass. Each container may carry information, for example information as to the edible substance contained in the container, and/or information of a promotional nature. Each container may be suitably sized to contain a standard quantity of an alcoholic beverage, for example 30ml.
The containers may be fixed together using screw-type connectors. Each container may comprise a substantially cylindrical body, having a first screw type connector at a first end of the body and a second screw-type connector at a second, opposite, end of the body. When fixed together in a column, the first screw-type connector of a container may be connected to a screw-type connector of a container preceding the container in the column, and the second screw-type connector of the container may be connected to a screw-type connector of a container following the container in the column.
The column of containers may be held substantially vertically in use, for example it may be fixed to a wall, or may be carried by a person. The containers may be detached from their column one at a time, by disconnecting the bottom-most container in the column.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a container according to the invention, and Figure 2 shows a plurality of containers fixed together in a column.
Figure 1 shows a container 1, comprising a hollow cylindrical body 2.
The body is provided at a first end with a male screw-type connector 3, and at a second, opposite, end with a recess containing a female screwtype connector 4.
The container is manufactured from a crystal polystyrene material, and is substantially transparent. In use, the container is filled with a coloured edible substance, for example flavoured vodka.
Figure 2 shows three containers, 5, 6, 7 fixed together in a column.
Container 6 is fitted to container 5 by engaging the male screw-type connector of container 6 within the female screw-type connector of container 5.
Likewise, container 7 is fitted to container 6. It can be seen that the base of each of the containers 5, 6 forms a top for the containers 6, 7 respectively. A cap 8 is fitted to the male screw-type connector of container 5, to provide a top for this container. Each of the containers contains a coloured edible substance, for example flavoured vodka. In this embodiment the container 5 contains a red edible substance, container 6 contains a yellow edible substance, and container 7 contains a green edible substance. It will be appreciated that the number of containers in the column and the sequence of colours provided by the column of containers may be varied from the example given above.
In the present specification "comprises" means "includes or consists of" and "comprising" means "including or consisting of".
The features disclosed in the foregoing description, or the following claims, or the accompanying drawings, expressed in their specific forms or in terms of a means for performing the disclosed function, or a method or process for attaining the disclosed result, as appropriate, may, separately, or in any combination of such features, be utilised for realising the invention in diverse forms thereof.

Claims (13)

1. A plurality of containers fixed together in a column and detachable one at a time therefrom, wherein at least a first container contains an edible substance having a first colour, and a second container contains an edible substance having a second colour.
2. A plurality of containers according to claim 1 wherein each container contains a differently coloured edible substance.
3. A plurality of containers according to claim 1 wherein at least a first set of two or more containers each contain an edible substance having a first colour, and a second set of two or more containers each contain an edible substance having a second colour.
4. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein the containers contain edible substances of different colours such as to provide a random sequence of colours in the column.
5. A plurality of containers according to any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the containers contain edible substances of different colours such as to provide a predetermined sequence of colours in the column.
6. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein the colour of an edible substance indicates information concerning the edible substance.
7. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein one or more of the containers contains an alcoholic beverage.
8. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein each container is manufactured from a substantially transparent material, such as plastic.
9. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein each container comprises a substantially cylindrical body, having a first screw-type connector at a first end of the body and a second screw-type connector at a second, opposite, end of the body.
10. A plurality of containers according to claim 9 wherein the containers are fixed together in the column as follows, the first screw-type connector of a container is connected to a screw-type connector of a container preceding the container in the column, and the second screwtype connector of the container is connected to a screw-type connector of a container following the container in the column.
11. A plurality of containers according to any preceding claim wherein the containers are detached from the column one at a time, by disconnecting the bottom-most container in the column.
12. A plurality of containers substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
