Abstract

A greeting card containing a pocket of scented pot pourri to suit the occasion. Preferably the pot pourri pocket is made from perforated paper to allow the fragrance to circulate, and it may be combined with lace or ribbons. The card may be provided in a sealed, clear cellophane bag to keep the fragrance fresh. The card may fragrance a room during display and may be used as a drawer fragrancer after display. The pot pourri fragrance may also be topped up with bottled fragrance if it starts to fade, and the card may contain a phial of fragrance for later use. The card may also include a conventional greeting 3 and a shaped aperture 2 to display the fragranced pocket.

generates a fragrance by incorporating a "pocket" of pot pourri. The card can then be used as a room fragrancer when it is dis- played, and later when the occasion has finished the card can be placed in a drawer to fragrance clothes.

There are many cards manufactured for many occasions but once the occasion for the card has finished the cards are resigned to the rubbish bin. Scent with Love Pot Pourri cards are different, they have the bonus that they relate the necessary greeting message but also perform a useful task so that the recipient will keep the card for much longer - the card acts as a present.

The aroma of the pot pourri will be kept fresh during display in the shop through a care- fully sealed clear cellophane bag. When the recipient receives the pot pourri card they will open the paper envelope and sense the aroma. The fragrance will be appropriate to the occasion; rose petal pot pourri for Valentine's Day; cinnamon and cloves for Christmas - see list attached page 2.

The card will then be displayed acting as a room fragrancer and then later the card can be placed in a drawer to fragrance clothes.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fioure 1 shows the finished folded card, number (1) being folds with the aperture (2) which holds the pocket of pot pourri and the message (3) "Scent with Love" which can be combined with other appropriate greetings e.g. congratulations on your Wedding Day/Happy Mothering Sunday/Happy Birthday etc. The shape and size of the aperture (2) can be changed to fit the occasion e.g. a heart for Valentine's Day, horse shoe shape for Weddings, holly leaf or ivy leaf for Christmas etc. Figure 2 shows the construction of the card, folds are marked (1), the shaped aperture (2) will have a square/rectangle of Mulberry paper (4), glued in place (6), over the aperture.

This Mulberry paper has the property that it will safely house the pot pourri keeping the pot pourri in place but at the same time allowing the fragrance to flow through unheed ed. The Mulberry paper could be changed to real lace or other appropriate material to match the occasion e.g. Wedding cards.

The pot pourri (5), such as dried lavender heads or dried rose petals, will be placed on top of the initial layer of Mulberry paper (4) and then another square/rectangle of Mulberry paper will be glued (6) in place over the top making effectively a 'sandwich'.

Flap (8) will then be glued down on to the inner section of card (9) to hide the edges of the pocket of pot pourri.

Figure 3 On the reverse of the card (10) will be a description of how to use the card. The pot pourri (5) can be changed to suit the occasion, see list attached page 2.

Figure 4 shows a modification to the greetings card where a phial of perfume (11) could be included within the card to refresh the pot pourri. The fold (1) could be cut horizontally twice (12) and this could hold a small plastic screw top phial. 2.

Claims

1. A greeting card that contains a pocket of pot pourri with a scent to suit the specific occasion.

2. The pot pourri pocket is made from Mulberry paper that holds the pot pourri safely in place within the card but at the same time allows the fragrance to flow through unheeded.

3. This Mulberry paper can be combined with real fabrics such as lace and ribbons to suit the occasion of the card.

4. The card will be completely sealed in a clear cellophane bag to keep the fragrance fresh, allowing a long shelf life and easy display in the retailers, yet a strong aroma on opening the paper envelope by the recipient.

5. The card can then be used as a room fragrancer during display and later as a drawer fragrancer after the special occasion has finished.

6. The fragrance can be topped up if it has started to fade by using bottled pot pourri fragrance. The fragrance can be dabbed onto the Mulberry paper which will absorb the fragrance through to the pot pourri contained within. If the cards prove succesful one future avenue of development would be for the card to contain a phial of fragrance for the recipient to use at a later date.
