Abstract

A clip for fixing pipes, cables or wires in position on a surface, which clip comprises a holding portion (4) for holding the pipes, cables or wires, and fixing means for fixing the clip with respect to the surface, the fixing means being a ring shank nail (14).

Description

A CLIP FOR FIXING PIPES. CABLES OR
WIRES IN POSITION ON A SURFACE
This invention relates to a clip for fixing pipes, cables or wires in position on a surface.
Known clips for fixing pipes, cables or wires in position on a surface comprise a holding portion for holding the pipes, cables or wires, and fixing means for fixing the clip with respect to the surface. The fixing means is a hardened nail having a plain shank. The hardened nail is primarily for fixing into brickwork. It is sometimes necessary to fix the hardened nails into wood and then the hardened nails do not grip the wood very satisfactorily.
The hardened nails tend to work loose, especially if the wood is relatively thin.
It is an aim of the present invention to obviate or reduce the above mentioned problem.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a clip for fixing pipes, cables or wires in position on a surface, which clip comprises a holding portion for holding the pipes, cables or wires, and fixing means for fixing the clip with respect to the surface, the fixing means being a ring shank nail.
The clip will usually be such that the ring shank nail is fixed directly into the surface. The ring shank nail is especially useful when the clip has to be secured to wood. r
The clip is preferably made from a plastics material. Other materials may be employed if desired. The clip may advantageously by moulded from a chosen plastics material. The ring shank nail can be made of any suitable and appropriate metals.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a known clip for fixing pipes, cables or wires in position of a surface; Figure 2 shows taxing means forming part of the clip shown in Figure 1, the fixing means being a hardened nail having a plain shank; and Figure 3 shows a replacement fixing means to that shown in Figure 2, the replacement fixing means being a ring shank nail.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a known clip 2 for fixing pipes, cables or wires (not shown) in position on a surface such for example as the surface of a wall or the surface of a skirting board. The clip 2 comprises a holding portion 4 for holding the pipes, cables or wires. The holding portion 4 is in the shape of a hook as shown. The clip 2 also comprises fixing means in the form of a hardened nail 6 for fixing the clip 2 on the surface such for example as the surface of a wall or a skirting board. The hardened nail 6 has a head 8, a plain shank 10 and a point 12. The nail 6 is satisfactory for fixing into brickwork. However, if the nail 6 is to be fixed into wood, then problems tend to occur in that the plain shank 10 can pull out of the wood. This is especially so if the wood is in the form of thin strips such for example as are used in making a wooden frame of a caravan.
Figure 3 shows replacement fixing means for the nail 6 shown in Figure 2. More specifically, Figure 3 shows a ring shank nail 14. The ring shank nail 14 has a head 16 and a point 18. The nail 14 has a shank portion 20 which is provided with a plurality of ring members 22 which are frustoconical in shape as shown. The nail 14 has a plain shank portion 24 but it is the shank portion 20 which gives good fixing into wood or similar materials.
When the nail 14 is used with the holding portion 4 shown in Figure 1, there is then produced a clip of the present invention which is especially useful for fixing pipes, cables or nails securely in position in wood or similar materials.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiment of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings has been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the precise design of the holding portion 4 and the nail 14 may be varied.

Claims (3)
