Abstract

240,556. Livens, F. H., and Ruston & Hornsby, Ltd. July 5, 1924. Scoop-arm machines; scraping-apparatus.- Bucket-arm or drag-line excavators have any or all of the mechanically and/or electrically actuated operating means controlled from a stationary or movable point or points outside the machine by mechanical and/or electrical devices at this point or points and flexible or fluid transmissions. In Fig. 3, hoisting and drag-line drums c, d of a. drag-line excavator are axially movable to bring friction discs n thereon into engagement with driving discs k driven from a common motor e; the axial movement is effected through levers y, z operated by flexible cables from a controlling station at a distance from the machine. On releasing the flexible cables, springs q move the drums to bring friction discs u thereon into engagement with brake discs t. Slueing and translational movements of the machine are effected by a single reversible motor or by independent reversible motors 3, 4, Fig. 4, acting respectively through worm and spur gearing 8, 9, to drive the turntable 7 and worm and spur gearing 11, 12 to drive endless bands 6 or wheels. The motors are also controlled from a distant station. A bucket-arm power navvy may be similarly arranged and may have the tripping of the bucket door latch also controlled from the distant station. The controls may act through relay means.
