Abstract
A locking device for a door comprising an espagnolette lock and a pivoting door opening limiter. A draw rod connects the espagnolette lock with the door opening limiter, the locking device characterised by the espagnolette lock being handle operated. The door-opening limiting device may comprise a pivoting member mounted on the doorframe engaging with a rectilinearly sliding bolt mounted on the door, the pivoting member engaging with the bolt in an extended position and restricting the distance the door may be opened. The handle may unbolt the espagnolette lock when moved into a first operating position and bolt the espagnolette lock when moved into a second operating position, in the process unbolting the door opening limiter by way of the draw rod. The handle-operated espagnolette lock and the pivoting door opening limiting device may execute locking movements in opposite directions.
Description
Locking Device The invention relates to a locking device for a door
comprising an espagnolette lock, a blocking pivot bow lock and a draw rod connecting the blocking pivot bow lock with the espagnolette lock, the espagnolette lock having a handle.
An espagnolette lock is known from EP 1 103 676 Al. In this lock a bolt can be locked into its extended and retracted positions, a latch is displaceable supported, a lock cylinder is provided and a driving bar is displaceable supported. Using the lock cylinder, the bolt can be locked into its extended and lo retracted positions. By means of a handle nut, which can be operated by a handle, the latch can be drawn in and the bolt also locked into its extended and retracted positions. To this end the handle nut is coupled to the driving bar of the espagnolette lock.
To lock the bolt into its extended position, thereby bolting or locking the espagnolette lock, the handle is swivelled upwards against the usual handle movement, whereas to open, i.e. unbolt, the espagnolette lock, the handle is swivelled downwards, thereby locking the bolt into its retracted position. The ends of the driving bar are provided with couplings, to which draw rods can be coupled, so that additional locks can be operated at the same time.
Additional bolt locks are coupled to such espagnolette locks by means of the draw rod, and these additional locks are operated together with the espagnolette lock. In this arrangement the bolt of the espagnolette lock is locked into its extended position, for example, whereby a bolt of the additional lock is likewise locked into its extended position. The door is then bolted not only by way of the espagnolette lock, but also by way of the additional lock.
s When a door of this type is unbolted, the bolts of the espagnolette lock and of the additional lock are locked into their retracted positions at the same time. The door is then fully opened.
A blocking pivot bow lock is known from EP O 748 910 A2. This lock has a handle nut, which can be connected to a turning lo handle. A bolt, which can engage with a blocking pivot bow lock on a fixed frame, is locked into its extended position by means of the nut.
The blocking pivot bow lock can also be provided with a lock cylinder. As a result the lock can be operated by means of a key, as well as manually using the turning handle. It is also known to have the blocking pivot bow lock couplable to a draw rod, with the result that the lock can also be brought from the locked position into the opened position by means of the draw rod. This draw rod may be coupled to an espagnolette lock, which can be bolted and opened using a key.
Blocking pivot bow locks of this type, unlike the above- described additional bolt locks, cannot be coupled to an espagnolette lock via a draw rod, since, when the espagnolette lock is unbolted, the blocking pivot bow lock would also be unbolted. But this lock must be bolted when the espaynolette lock is unbolted. Movements of the opposite sense are therefore required.
This means that, when the espagnolette lock is unbolted, the blocking pivot bow lock must be bolted. The unbolting of the espagnolette lock must therefore cause the bolting of the blocking pivot bow lock.
It has proven to be the case that, especially an older doors which can sometimes be warred, it can be difficult to bolt or open the main lock using a key. This is because the lock cylinder, which drives a gearing arrangement, has to operate not only the main lock, but;tionA1 lo locks also. When this occurs, the force to be applied can be so great due to the warping of the door, that opem ng is impossible, or can be achieved only with great difficulty.
It is therefore the aim of the indention to provide a locking device, in which the blocking pivot bow lock can be operated without 1E difficulty, even when the door is warped. Moreover, it should be possible to operate the blocking pivot bow lock from both sides of the door.
In accordance with the invention, this aim is achieved in a locking device of the type Toned at the beginning by arranging for the blocking pivot bow lock to be cperted by a handle.
In a handle-operated espagnolette lock, the espagnolette lock can be bolted and unbolted using not orly the lock cylinder, but also the handle. By this means considerably greater forces can be brought to hear than with a key. This is a particular advantage when doors are warped. l
In one embodiment the handle unbolts the espagnolette lock when it is moved into a first operating position and bolts the espagnolette lock when it is moved into a second operating position, in the process unbolting the blocking pivot bow lock by way of the draw rod.
In the locking device according to the invention the blacking pivot bow lock is operated not only by means of the turning handle provided on the blocking pivot bow lock, but it can also be operated by the handle provided on the espagnolette lock, the handle having two operating directions. In one operating direction the espagnolette lo lock is unbolted using the handle, which is operated in the usual direction, i.e. downwards. In the other operating direction the espagnolette lock is bolted, the handle here being operated upwards. This = ent is transmitted to the blocking pivot bow lock via the raw rod, thereby unbolting this lock. If now the handle is IS moved dawn wards again, i.e. is brought into its first operating position, the espagnolette lock is unbolted and the blocking pivot bow lock remains unbolted. The door can now be opened.
When the door is locked using the cylinder lock, this causes the bolt to be locked in its extended position. At the same time it can cause the blocking pivot bow lock to be bolted. However, unbolting the espagnolette lock does not result in the blocking pivot bow lock being unbolted. This, if it is bolted, remains bolted.
The blocking pivot bow lock must be unbolted either manually, using its turning handle, or by means of the handle an the espagnolette lock.
Because of the generally unconventional sequence of movements of the handle, i.e. after the door has been unlocked using the lock cylinder, the handle must first of all be operated in such a manner that the espagnolette lock is again bolted, whereby the blocking pivot bow lock becomes unbolted. This urrxrventional operation of the handle ensures s that the blocking pivot bow lock is intentionally unbolted. If, after the main lock has been unlocked using the cylinder lock, the handle were straightaway swivelled downward, that is, if the usual operation were to take place, then the blocking pivot bow lock could not be unbolted. The espagnolette lock is indeed unbolted. However, the door can only be to cad a fraction due to the bolted blocking pivot bow lock.
In a further embodiment, it is arranged for the handle-operated espagnolette lock to have a lock cylinder, by beans of which the espagnolette lock, but not the blocking pivot bow lock, can be bolted and unbolted. Accordingly, the espagnolette lock can indeed be unbolted using the lock cylinder, whereby the door can be cgened a small fraction. However, as the blocking pivot bow lock still remam s in its boltedposition, the dcor is prevented from opening fully. The blocking pivot bcw lock can be unbolted only by means of its turning handle, or by means of the handle on the handle-c,perated espagnolette lock.
An another embodiment, it is arraqgel for the handle-cperated espagnolette lock to have a lock cylinder, by means of which the blocking pivot bow lock can be bolted. In this manner the blocking pivot bow lock can;tionally he bolted by bolting the espagnalette lock using a lock cylinder. This further eSUKY3 security.
AS already mentioned, the blocking pivot bow lock can, have both a manNa1 operating means and be equipped with a lock cylinder. As a result it can be bolted and unbolted from the inside using the Manual cgerating means, e.g. using a turning handle, whereas it can be bolted and unbolted both from the inside and from the outside by Deans of a lock cylinder. This requires greater forces when doors are warped, however, since only small moments can be applied with a key. Such doors, however, can be unbolted and Opened without difficulty using the handle.
