Abstract
A refuse bin lid that will compact refuse. The underside of the lid has a protrusion that will force the contents of the bin to be pushed further into the bin when the lid of the bin is closed.
Description
Description Self-compressing Dustbin The bin will utilise a standard base/container, but the lid will have the addition of a moulded depression in the under surface of of the lid. It is this part of the bin that is the subject of this application.
When the lid with the depression is closed and the level of rubbish/refuse is near the top of the bin, the depression will force the bin contents to be compacted further into the bin, providing more space for further refuse. This cycle can be repeated until the bin is satisfactorily full. The size of the depression in the lid will be determined by the overall size of the 'wheelie' bin or bins, and will have a ratio of 20% - any more would probably cause closure of the lid to be too difficult for a female to operate, although the actual ratio will be decided by the manufacturer.
Claims (4)
1. This compression device enables the user to compact the bin contents without the need to touch said refuse.
2. The additional costs incurred during manufacture are minimal, as there is only one piece to make.
3. The bin lid is strengthened by the additional integral compression device.
4. The design is such that there are no moving parts, again aiding simplicity of manufacture.
