Abstract

A slipmat includes the standard slipmat at the base 1, which has an extra ledge of material 3 running around its perimeter. The slipmat base 1 has a hole 2 cut out of the center so it can fit on a standard turntable.

Description

SLIPMATS
The invention relates to a standard slipmat which is used by a disc jockey on his or her turntables whilst mixing recordslvinyl. A slipmat is placed in-between the turntable and record to both protect the vinyl on one side and reduce friction on the other side.
The slipmat allows the disc jockey to slow down or speed up the record with OUt al,iis+.i;:g the speed orotaticn at which the turntable is rotating.
Such slipmats work perfectly well when the record is in perfect condition and not warped/bowl shaped. However' when the record is warped or bowl shaped (distorted) a standard slipmat doesn't produce a high quality out come and can prove much more difficult for the disk jockey to use. This is because a warped or bowl shaped record is concave on one side and convex on the other. This is fine when the convex side is facing up but when the convex side is facing down the record becomes much more sensitive, slowing down or speeding up much too easily even with the most gentle of touches by the disk jockey. This is due to the convex side of the record when facing down not touching enough of the slipmat as only the centre of the record is in contact, producing very little friction between the record and the slipmat.
An object of this invention is to enable the disk jockey to produce a much higher if not perfect out come when using warped or bowl shaped records.
The invention provides a slipmat including at least one raised element for engagement with the underside of a record. Preferably, the at least one raised element is located on the slipmat on or close to the perimeter thereof.
Preferably, the at least one raised element is a layer or ledge running around the perimeter of the slipmat.
Preferably the slipmat is made or standard slipmat rnarerials with the ledge, "l.nillg; around the perimeter made of the same or different material such as rubber to increase friction.
4 p! eferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE I shows a side on perspective view of the slipmat; FORGIVE 2 shows a front on view of the slipmat.

T hen there is 3 an extra layer or ledge of material running around the perimeter of the slipmat.
AS shown in Figure:!, the slipmat is a perfect round shape Circular) and is or standard slipmat size.
AS shown in Figure 3, the base factor I has a raised element 3 running around the outside of it. The raised element 3 is what the record 4 shall sit on top of to increase grip.
This slipmat works much better for warped or bowl shaped records as the extra layer or ledge 3 running around the perimeter enables the entire outside edge of the distorted record to be in-contact with the slipmat. This extra ledge produces much more friction between the slipmatt and record compared to using a standard slipmat.
