Abstract
A match that has two striking surfaces of non-combustible safety match material at opposite ends of said match, as indicated in the drawing accompanying the application. Preferably the match will have a weakened area at the centre in order to facilitate easy breaking into two component parts. This will have both financial and practical gains to the manufacturer and to the user, as there will be double the striking capabilities in each box. Additionally, each separated part could be stored for future use.

Descnption This application is in respect of a match for use either indoors or outdoors.
The principle feature of the match is the addition of an extra striking surface at the (usually) blank end (see attached diagram). Thus the match will contain two separate striking ends consisting of either a safety match incorporating the usual features of such matches, or of the nonsafety type, strikeable on most surfaces depending on the proposed target use. The match will use conventional matchstick blanks, and will have a striking surface at each end. The match can then be struck at either end, then turned in the hand, thus bringing the other surface into play, or it can be snapped in half and used as two separate matches.
Benefits to the manufacturer will be of greater economy, cost and unit numbers, as there will be half the amount of timber or other material used and/or double the striking surface available, compared to the traditional match type.
Advantageous use within a survival situation is also seen to be an additional bonus.
Claims (5)
- Claim.Strike-twice Match - Patent Application Number 0313522.5 This application has the following features: 1. There will be two striking surfaces at opposing ends of one piece of matchwood.
- 2. The matchwood will be of sufficient length to enable its use on more than one occasion.
- 3. The matchwood will be long enough to break into two separate striking pieces.
- 4. The matchwood could incorporate a central weakened area to assist the snapping in two parts.
- 5. The striking surfaces would be of the safety variety in order to ensure the user's protection against accidental ignition.
