Abstract

A universal sailboard mast mounting joint, which connects the mast of the sailboard to the board itself, is adapted to restrict movement of the mast through a plane lying parallel to the upper surface of the board and passing through the joint, to prevent the mast from impacting the board when released by the user. This prevents damage to the board or sail rig and also holds the rig above the water's surface to facilitate raising of the rig to an in-use position. The joint may be provided by a high impact moulded rubber ring mounted around a standard universal joint, the ring restricting movement of the joint in the required manner.

Description

Board Protector The invention relates to the universal joint on a
windsurfing board.
There are a couple of devices on the market which offer some protection to the nose of the board from the mast but suffer from the disadvantage that the mast may fall to the sides or back which causes dents to the board and scuffs the rigs.
The objective of this invention is to limit the deflection of the mast against the board in a 360' angle. It limit's the impact of the mast and aids the lift of the sail.
In windsurfing the mast can strike the board and cause damage to the board, mast, sail, fingers etc. This invention is to provide 360' protection, limiting the deflection of the mast and restricting the contact.
When deep water starting, the sail can stick to the surface of the water, this invention creates the lift and reduces the stick.
The invention is made up of a universal joint encircled with a high impact rubber circle which creates a 360' protection.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows the side view of a basic universal joint set up, illustrating the normal movement and rotation.
FIGURE 2 shows the side view of the universal joint encircled with the moulded rubber circle, restricting the degree and angle of movement.
FIGURE 3 shows the side view of a windsurfing board highlighting the universal joint.
FIGURE 4 shows the side view of a windsurfing board, illustrating the protection offered by the board protector. i

Claims (1)

1. The limited movement universal joint board protector provides a 360' protection for the board, sail, mast, fingers and toes and aids deep water starting.
