Abstract
A fabric seat back 15 for a collapsible chair 10, e.g. a "Director's chair", comprises a flap 26 provided along an upper or lower edge of the back. The flap 26 can be folded across the rear face 19 of the seat back so as to hide any traces of a printed or embroidered motif [25, figure 2] which may be formed on the front face [18, figure 2] of the seat back. The flap 26 may be secured in place by suitable fastening means 27.

Field
This invention relates to seat backs for collapsible chairs, and in particular to seat backs which are made from textile material.
Background ofthe Invention
Collapsible chairs comprising a collapsible wooden frame and textile seats and backs are well known An example of such a chair is known as a " Director's Chair" and has a fabric seat back which interconnects a pair of upright fi-ame members to support the back of person seated on the chair.
The seat back is typically a single layer thickness of fabric, for example canvas, having the two ends sewn to form tubes which in use receive the frame uprights. If it is desired to 1 S decorate the front surface of the seat back with indicia which may for example be a name, logo, rank etc. then this may be achieved by embroidery or by screen printing etc. A problem with either technique is that the decoration on the front of the seat bacl; may be result in visible unsightly traces on the rear of the seat back This is not pleasing to the CVr2 and is unacceptable in a high quality pro5uci () The present irventio pair\ irises a me, ot c!-ctrlllll talc al; Me.
Statements of Invention
According to the present invention there is provided a fabric seat back for a collapsible chair having a foldable or collapsible frame with upright back limbs to which the back is attached, the back having a motif formed on the fiont surface thereof and a flap on the upper or lower edge of the back and which is foldable across the rear swore of said back to hide any visible traces ofthe motif on said rear swLace, the flap being secured in position by
suitable means. s
Preferably the side portions of back are looped back on themselves to form integral tube to receive the upright limbs of the collapsible frame.
The seat back may be made from any suitable fabric material, such as canvas, which is foldable for storage. (em)
The flap may be releasably secured by press studs, buttons, Velcro etc. The flap preferably covers substantially the whole of the rear surface of the seat back.
The invention also includes a collapsible chair having a collapsible frame with a fabric seat and fabric seat back the frame having a seat back as disclosed herein. Preferably the frame includes arms incorporating the back uprights over which a fabric seat back is releasably mounted with the tubes being slidable over said uprights and the motif displayed to the front ofthe seat when in the assembled condition.
Description ofthe Drawing
The invention will be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is an isometric view of a Director's cha* having a seat back according to the present invention, Fig. 2 is a front view of a seat back according to the present invention in the folded condition, and Fig 3 is a rea. view ofthe seat back of Fig. 2 in the open condition.
Detailed description ofthe Invention
With reference to Fig. 1 of the drawings, there is shown a collapsible chair 10, having a collapsible frame I [including arms 12 & 13. The chair has a fabric seat 14 extending between the sides ofthe frame and a fabric seat back 15 extending between upright back limbs 16 & 17 which are incorporated into the arms 12 & 13 respectively. The arms 12 & 13 are foldable across the seat 14 when the chair is collapsed and in order to facilitate a total collapse of the chair the seat back 15 is easily removable from the uprights 16 & 17. The frame of the chair forms part ofthe prior art and is known as a "Director's Chair " and forms no part of the present invention.
Referring now to Figs. 2 & 3 the seat back 15 has a tube 21, 22 integrally formed on each side from a loop of fabric which is turned back on itself and anchored by a line of stitches 23. The tubes21, 22 area slice fit overthe uprights 16& 17facilitatingeasy rend and assembly office seat bact; over the uprights 16 & 17 The seat back 15 may be provided with a motif 25 on its front surt:ace 18 which may be in any form such a logo, picture, alphanumeric symbols etc.. The motif 25 may be formed by printing or preferably by embroidery for high quality goods. The motif 25 on the front surface 18 may be part visible on the rear surface 19 of the back 15 especially if the motif is embroidered. The visible traces of the motifon the rear surface 19 are unsightly and the seat back is provided with a flap 26 on its lower edge which is foldable across the rear surface 19 to hide the traces of the motif 25. The flap preferably covers the whole rear surface of the seat back and is held in place by any suitable means in this case a hook and loop fastener 27 such as Velco ( Reg.TM j. The flap may of course be formed or, the upper edge of the seat back if desired.

Claims (7)
- Claims 1. A fabric seat back for a collapsible chair having a foldable orcollapsible fiche including upright back limbs to which said seat back is mounted, the back having a motif formed on the front surface thereof and a flap on the upper or lower edge of the back which is foldable across the rear surface of the back to hide any traces of the motif visible on the rear surface, the flap being secured in position by suitable means

- 6. A collapsible chair having a collapsible frame with a fabric seat and fabric seat back, the frame including upright back limbs to which a seat back as claimed in any one of Claims I to 5 is attached.

A collabsible chair having arms which include the back upright limbs over which a fabric seat back as claimed in any Claim dependent upon Claim 2 is releasably mounted with the tubes being slidable over said uprights and the motif displayed to the front of the seat when in the assembled condition.9 A seat back substantially as described herein
