Abstract

An arm brace, particularly for use by a golfer to help keep an arm straight whilst practising a golf shot, comprises a main body 1 designed to be fastened to the arm above and below the elbow , eg by belt and buckles 2, and a pair of swivel hinges 4 either side of the elbow, one of the hinges being lockable by lever 5 to restrict movement of the brace. The hinges preferably comprise a threaded bolt and nut passing through a pair of washers, (fig 4, not shown), but the lockable hinge also includes a four-arm locking pin co-operating with a trough engineered in the side of the bolt thread (figs 2 and 3, not shown). The arm brace is covered with an elasticated fabric mesh 3 for comfort, in the forearm elbow and crook areas.

fits over the arm and is secured by way of buckle and strap fastenings at each end of the brace At the centre of the brace and situated at either side of the elbow point there is a washer type swivel hinge device that allows the brace freedom of movement Incorporated into one of the washer type hinges is a lock mechanism activated by a lever to lock the brace into position when required.

Many golfers suffer the disadvantage of being unable to execute a better shot on the green because they can't maintain a continuous and straight arm throughout the whole motion of a given shot An object of this invention is to provide an arm brace of the type that moves freely and can be locked into position to steady and help train the swinging arm into opening to its full extent for the purpose of executing a surer shot.

Accordingly, this invention provides an arm brace including the main body of the brace with buckle and belt fastenings to attach the brace to the arm. The centre of the brace is hinged at the elbow point to allow movement between golf swings. Incorporated into one hinge is a lock/unlock mechanism that activates by a locking lever situated upon the washer type swivel hinge. The forearm, elbow and crook area of the brace is covered in elasticated mesh fabric.

Preferably, the arm brace is made from a combination of tough plastic, metal, leather and mesh fabric although other construction materials are possible.

A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure I shows an elevated side view of the arm brace in its entirety.

Figure 2 is a section showing a washer type swivel hinge that allows movement to the brace, a locking device incorporated within the washer hinge allows the brace to lock into position.

Figure 3 is a section showing an overhead view of the four pinned locking washer with nipple, this is incorporated within the washer hinge of the brace.

Figure 4 is a section showing a washer type swivel hinge.

As shown in Figure 1, the brace comprises the main body of the brace I consisting of two buckle and strap type fastenings 2 at either end to fasten the brace to a golfers arm securely.

As shown in Figure 2, the washer type swivel hinge 4 comprises a spring loaded four pinned locking device 6, 7 in the centre of the locking pin is a nipple that runs down a trough engineered down the side of a threaded bolt 8 which keep the locking pins stable and corresponding with four holes drilled into washer hinge 4a, the lock is engaged by turning the locking lever 5 to the locked position As shown in Figure 4, this section shows a washer type swivel hinge consisting of a threaded bolt that passes through the centre of the washer hinge and fastened with a threaded nut 9.

Claims

An arm brace including the main body of the brace and a fastening strap at each end to secure it to the arm, a washer swivel hinge is located on each side of the elbow point, in the centre of the brace, which allow the brace freedom to move, one of the swivel hinges contains a locking mechanism to restrict movement ofthe brace at will, the elbow, crook and forearm are covered with elasticated mesh fabric.
2 An arm brace as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from tough plastic, metal, strong leather and elasticated fabric although other types of materials will suffice.
