Abstract

A vehicle steering wheel lock to prevent theft of the vehicle comprises a square section metal bar 3 which is connected to the steering wheel by a hooked portion and by a locking portion which encompasses the steering wheel with a swivel 2 which is locked in place by a padlock positioned behind the wheel so that access is difficult for attack by a thief. A round bar 1 is positioned within the square section 3 to rotate if an attempt is made to saw through the device.

Description

VEHICLE ANTI THEFT DEVICE.
THE INVENTION RELATES TO A MOTOR VEHICLE ANTI THEFT
DEVlCE,WIIITC1l HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE UNAUTHERISED USE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE.
THIS DEVICE IS DESIGNED FOR THE VEHICLES STEERING WHEEL,lT IS REMOVABLE WITH MlNIMlJM EFFORT,AND IS KEPT WITHIN THE VEII1CLE.
SUCH DEVICES ARE WELL KNOWN BIJT FALL SHORT OF THERE
PROPER OBJECTIVE.MANY STEERING WHEEL DEVICES CAN BE OVER-COME RENDERING THEIR lJSAGE IMPRAC TIBLE.
THE OBJECl IVE OF THIS INVENTION IS TO PROVIDE A STEERING WIIEEL DEVICE WHICH IS PRACTICABLE,EFFECTIVF AND SUPPORTIVE OF CRIME PREVENTION.
ANDINGLY THIS INVENTION PROVIDES A DEVICE WHICH IS
ATTATCHED TO THE VEHICLES STEERING WHEEL.
THIS DEVICE WHEN APPLIF,D ENTRAPS THE STEERING WHEEL AND
THE LOCKING PROCESS IS COMPLETED BY THE ASSISTANCE OF A
PADLOCK.
THE HISTORY OF THIS DEVICE ORINGINATED IN 1994,W1IEN I,AS A
SERVING POLICE OFFICER DEALT WITH VARIOUS INSTANCES OF
MOTOR VEHICLES BEEING TAKEN BY THE OPPORTUNIST,OR BY PERSONS ENGAGED IN REQlJIRING SPECIALISED VEHICLES WITH A VIEW TO BEING SOLD ON.
INITIALLY MOTOR VEHICLES SOLELY RELIED UPON THE STEERING
WHEEL LOCK,WICH WAS EASILY OVER-COME.
STEERING WHEEI, DEVICES COMMONLY KNOWN AS KROK-LOCKS APPEARED,BIJT WERE OVERCOME BY THE THIEF.
MY IDEA WAS TO SET A DEVICE UPON THE STEERING WHEEL WITH
ITS LOCKING MACHANISM BEHIND THE WHEEL,USING A PADLOCK,THE LOCKING PROCESS WOULD BE COMPLETE.
WHEN THE DEVICE IS APPLIED AND LOCKED IT NIAKES ATTACKS
UPON IT BY LEVER BAR,BOLT CROPPERS,HACKSAW,AND OTHER ARTICLES INEFFECTIVE, THE DEVICE IS DIFFICULT IN BEING REMOVED.
THIS RENDERS THE THIEF TO A HIGH DEGREE OF DETECTION.
IT PROVIDES A {TREATER AMOUNT OF REASSURANCE TO THE USER,WHICH IS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION.
THE DEVICE IS MADE OF METAL AND CAN BE FINISHED BY PAINT
ITS SHAPE CAN BE VIEWED AS PER THE ATTACHED DRAWINGS
LISTED.
FIGURE 1/.SHoWS A SIDE VIEW OF THE DEVICE.
FIGURE 2/. SHOWS A SIDE VIEW OF THE DEVICE BEING ENGAGED ONTO THE VEHICLES STEERING WHEEL OFFSIDE.
THE DEVICE LOCKING MECHANISM IS SWIVELLED TO A OPEN
POSITION AS PER REFERENCE 2.
THE ARROWS INDICATE THE DEVICE SHOULD TRAVEL DOWNWARDS
TO COVER THE NEARSIDE PART OF THE STEERING WHEEL,(SHOWN IN CROSS SECTION).
FIGURE 3/. SHOWS A SIDE VIEW OF THE DEVICE CLOSED UPON THE VEHICLES STEERING WHEEL.
FIGURE 4/5. SHOWS A PARTIAL SECTION OF THE DEVICE IN THE CLOSED POSITION ASSISTED BY A PADLOCK.
FIGURE 5/5. SHOWS A PLAN OF THE DEVICE ITS, POSITION SET
UPON THE STEERING WHEEL
REFERENCE 3,1S OF METAL SQUARE PROFlLE,WITHIN THE PROFILE IS A REINFORCED METAL BAR,WHICH IS ALLOWED TO SLIDE AND ROTATE.
BOTH ENDS OF REFERENCE 3,1S CAPPET OFF THERE BY ENTRAPPING REFERENCEI.
THE OBJECT OF THIS FEATURE IS TO DETER THE USE OF HACKSAW
OR BOLT CROPPERS IN O - ER TO REMOVE THIS DEVICE.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS 1.
A DEMOUNTABLE STEERING WHEEL LOCK,OF WHITCH lS FIXED TO THE STEERING WHEEL OF ANY VEHICLE. 2.
THE DEVICE IS FIXED TO THE STEERING WHEEL VIA THE
SWIVEL DEVICE, AS PER FIGURE 2/5, NUMBERED 2.
THE DEVICE IS THEN FIXED TO THE STEERING WHEEL
VIA A REMOVABLE SNAP TYPE LOCK,AS PER FIGURE 4/5.
    NUMBER 2.
THE MAIN SHAFT DEVICE IS MADE OF STURDY SQUARE
STEEL AS PER FIGURE 1/5, NUMBERED 1-3
THE MAIN SHAFT IS REINFORCED WITH A ROUND HIGH
    TENSION STEEL BAR
    FIXED WITHIN FOR SECURITY.
6 THE INTERNAL HIGH TENSION STEEL BAR IS NOT FIXED, BUT IS LEFT TO FREELY ROLL WITHIN THE MAIN SHAFT.
THIS SYSTEM WILL ALLOW IF THE MAIN SHAFT IS CUT
THROUGH, THE INNER ROLLING BAR WILL JUST ROTATE WITHIN THE SHAFT, AS PER FIGURES/5. NUMBERS1-3
