Abstract
A pocket portable paper target holder comprises a main body 2 to which are attached retaining arms 1 which are adapted to move, from narrow closed positions (see fig 1) to open positions for use (see figs 2 to 4). Each of the arms 1 may include a slot used to retain an appropriate paper target. The arrangement may utilise several configurations depending on the actions of pivots 6, hinges 5 and slots 4. Figure 3 shows stand 3 resting on the ground so as to supply support for the arrangement, whilst figure 4 shows the vertical extension of stand 3 (motion relative to hinge and slot 5, 4) so as to provide ground spikes. Furthermore, an arrangement as shown in figure 2 provides a low centre of gravity.
Description
23991 60 This invention relates to a "Pocket Portable Paper Target
Holder".
Paper target holders are common in shooting sports.
A typical paper target holder for airguns takes the form of a steel box which incorporates a means of retaining a target card at the box front, usually some form of slot or channel that the card can be slid into from the top of the box.
Sliding the card into position seals the box, allowing it to retain any pellets, which pass through the card.
Paper target holders tend to be bulky items, which are not practical for use in the field as they are too awkward to carry.
According to the present invention there is provided a pocket portable paper target holder comprising a main body, a pair of paper target support arms and a combined stand/ground spikes.
The target support arms incorporate a means of holding a paper target, a means for fixing the arms to the frame which allows the arms to rotate to the closed position along the frame sides, to rotate to any desired open position and to be held in this position. The anus are also able to rotate if struck by a projectile thus helping to prevent damage to said arms. Incorporated into the main body and target support arms is a means of allowing the arms, when rotated to the open position, to widen considerably.
Attached to the opposite end of the main body is a combined stand and ground spikes. This unit has three positions to suit the prevailing usage conditions and also incorporates a lock to hold the target support arms in the closed position.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 Illustrates the target holder in the fully closed position.
Figure 2 Shows the target holder open in the low position.
Figure 3 Shows the target holder in the high position with the stand deployed.
Figure \. Illustrates the target holder in the high position with the ground spikes locked into position.
Figure 5 Highlights the arm widening function and fully demonstrates the increased arm width available when the arms are fully open i.e. 180 degrees from closed position.
Both the stand/ground spikes and the target card support arms are attached to the main body by fasteners, which have variable tension, for example all metal lock nuts and bolts.
To open the target holder to the position shown in Figure 2 the target support arm No. I are flexed outwards from their retainers No. 5 and rotated through ninety degrees. A target card is then inserted into the slots in the support arms No. 1 To open the unit, as illustrated in Figure 3, the target support arms No. I are rotated through an additional ninety degrees, fully operating the widening function. The stand hinges No. 5 are then slid to the bottom of their slots No. 4, the stand No. 3 rotated open ninety degrees and the stand hinges No. 5 slid to the top of the slots No. 4 to lock the stand in position.
To further open the stand to use the ground spikes as shown in Figure 4 the stand hinges No. 5 are slid to the bottom of their slots No. 4, the stand rotated into alignment with the body, No. 2 as shown and the stand hinges No. 5 slid along the slot No. 4 to lock the ground spikes in position in conjunction with the locating lugs incorporated into the ground spikes.
To return the target holder to the closed configuration in Figure I the stand/spikes No. 3 are unlocked by reversing the locking procedure and rotated back inside the main frame.
The target support arms No. I are then rotated back to their closed position, lifting their ends onto the fasteners/hinges No. 5. The stand hinges No. 5 are then positioned so that they locate into the holes in the target support arms, Reference Figure I - No. 8.
Claims (8)
- Claims 1. A pocket portable paper target holder featuring a main body, paper target retaining arms which are adapted to move from a narrower closed position to open positions wherein the distance between the arms increases and a stand which is adapted to move to a closed position or to form a stand to support the unit. The stand may aLso be opened to form ground spikes.
- 2. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in Claim I wherein a slot is provided in each of the target support arms.
- 3. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein means are provided on the main body, co-operable with the card retaining arms in order to increase the distance between the arms when opened.
- 4. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in Claim 1, 2 and 3 wherein a means co-operable between the stand/ground spikes and main body is used to lock the stand in the open position.
- 5. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in Claims, 2, 3 and 4 wherein a means co-operable between the stand/ground spokes and main body is used to lock the ground spikes in the open position.
- 6. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in any previous claim where a means is provided, co-operable between the main body, card retaining arm fixing/hinges and card retaining arms that allows said arms to rotate to and hold any desired position and to rotate around said hinges if struck by a projectile.
- 7. A pocket portable paper target holder as claimed in any previous claim wherein a catchment means is provided to lock the paper target retaining arms in position.
- 8. A pocket portable paper target holder substantially as described herein with reference to I; igures I - 5 of the accompanying drawings.
