Abstract

The Paper Re-cycling Method takes raw waste paper into a Feed Hopper whence it is fed to a Shredder from which the shreddings are conveyed into a Shredded Paper Silo. Shreddings from the Silo are conveyed into a Headbox from which they are distributed and fed at a suitably controlled rate through an Adhesive Application System and on through Compression Rolls which compress the shreddings into product paper or board of the required specification prior to passage through heating/drying rolls. The shreddings are magnetically screened to remove such items as staples, paper clips, before being conveyed to the silo.

Description

NOVEL PAPER RECYCLING METHOD
INTRODUCTION
The main method of paper recycling is by re-pulping the raw recycled paper together with new pulp to produce a mix of fresh and recycled fibres in the end product.
This mode of recycling requires a costly process of re-pulping and deinking of the pulp together with associated water supply and recovery and effluent treatment systems.
This novel system obviates the need for re-pulping the raw recycled paper and would not require the de-inking process.
PROPOSED METHOD
The intent is to process dry paper without any addition of water.
The product board or heavy paper would be used for use in packing cases, tubulars (rolls for tissue paper, cloth rolls etc.), wall board facings etc. For cosmetic purposes facings could be applied just as in conventional use.
The method could also be utilised for producing thicker boards for wall or ceiling boarding or similar by using the recycling method to make inner filling for thicker boards for such as wall or ceiling boards, shattering boards etc. PROCESS FLOW SCHEME see FS/1 Raw paper waste is received into a FEED Hopper which feeds the paper via a ROTARY VALVE or similar feeder into a SHREDDER. The Shredder reduces the paper size as necessary for the subsequent process and specific product.
The shreddings are magnetically screened to remove ferrous items (staples/paper clips etc.) and are conveyed to the SHREDDED PAPER SILO.
Shreddings from the SILO are conveyed to a HEADBOX which is level controlled possibly on a by-pass system back to the SILO.
The function of the HEADBOX is to feed the shreddings to the roll system consistently along the rolls. This is achieved by control of the feeder at the bottom of the HEADBOX.
Flow into the feeder is facilitated by flow assisters (fluidising pads, vibrators or similar) on the HEADBOX. Shreddings from the feeder are distributed into the rolls by a facilitated (vibrating, oscillating, fluidising or similar) FEED PLATE/SHUTE.
The shreddings drop from the end of the feed plate/chute into the feed side of the COMPRESSION ROLLS. Before reaching these rolls the falling "curtain" of shreddings is sprayed with adhesive by mist sprays or other distributing means on either side of the shreddings curtain. The adhesive could be a starch/water type of adhesive to maintain the bigdegradability of the product or other material as necessary to achieve the end product
specification.
The COMPRESSION ROLLS serve to consolidate the board and distribute the adhesive into the matrix. Excess adhesive should be expelled and recovered for re-use.
The COMPRESSION ROLLS are followed by HEATING/DRYING ROLLS and downstream processing as per conventional paper/board manufacture.

associated materials (card and board) into new products, without the need for the re- pulping of the re-cycled paper, with the consequent elimination of the re- pulping equipment and its associated water supply and water reprocessing systems.
  2. 2. A Processing Method as in Claim 1 which feeds and shreds the re-cycled paper.
  3. 3. A Processing Method as in Claims 1 & 2 which handles and feeds the paper shreddings to an adhesive application system.
  4. 4. A Processing Method as in Claims 1,2 & 3 which accepts the adhesive coated shreddings and which uses Compression Rolls to process the coated shreddings into product card or board. l
