Abstract

A speaker and adapter assembly includes one or more speakers 10, an adapter 20 having a circuit board 23 coupled to the speakers, a processor device 25 attached to the circuit board, and a coupler 26, such as a USB coupler, coupled to the circuit board, for coupling to the computer. The speaker, or one or more ear pieces 40, or one or more optical fibers 42 may be coupled to the adapter via other couplers. The adapter includes a converter and/or an amplifier coupled to the processor device.

SPEAKER AND ADAPTER ASSEMBLY
The invention relates to a speaker and adapter assembly.
Typical speakers comprise a housing having a number of electric wires or cables, transformers, and the like disposed therein, such that the typical speakers comprise a huge volume that is adverse for storing and transportation purposes.
In addition, due to the receiving or the engagement of the electric wires or cables, transformers, and the like disposed within the housing of typical speakers, the qualities of the sounds or tones generated by the typical speakers are reduced.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a speaker and adapter assembly including an adapter for facilitating coupling of the speaker to various computer facilities.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention there is provided a speaker and adapter assembly comprising: a) at least one speaker, b) an adapter including a circuit board coupled to the speaker, c) a processor device attached to the circuit board, and d) a first coupler coupled to the circuit board, for coupling to a computer facility.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
FIGS. 1, 2 are perspective views illustrating the operation of the speaker and adapter assembly; FIG. 3 is an exploded view of the speaker and adapter assembly; FIG. 4 is a plan schematic view illustrating the operation of the speaker and adapter assembly; FIG. 5 is a plan schematic view similar to FIG. 5, illustrating the other operation of the speaker and adapter assembly; and FIG. 6 is a block diagram illustrating the electric circuit of the speaker and adapter assembly; FIG. 7 is a partial exploded view showing another arrangement of the speaker and adapter assembly.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
Referring to FIGS. 1-3, a speaker and adapter assembly 0 comprises one or more speakers 10 and an adapter 20 coupled together, for coupling to various computer facilities 30, 31, such as notebook computers 30 (FIG. 1), personal computers 31 (FIG. 2), personal digital assistants, or the like.
Each of the computer facilities 30, 31 includes one or more couplers 33, such as universal serial bus (USB) couplers 33 provided therein. The speakers 10 may be coupled together with one or more couplers 11 for coupling to the adapter 20.
As shown in FIG. 3, the adapter 20 includes a lower and an upper housings 21, 22 secured together with such as fasteners, adhesive materials, or by welding processes, etc., and a circuit board 23 disposed in the lower and the upper housings 21, 22.
As shown in FIG. 3, the circuit board 23 includes a number of electric parts or elements 24 and a chip or processor device 25 disposed thereon, and a coupler 26, such as a USB coupler 26 attached thereto, for coupling or plugging to the corresponding USB couplers 33 of the computer facilities 30, 31 (FIGS. 1, 2), and another coupler 27 for coupling to the couplers 11 of the speakers 10.
Accordingly, one or more speakers 10 may be coupled to the adapter 20, either solidly with electric wires or cables 12, or detachably with the couplers 11, 27; and the USB coupler 26 of the adapter 20 may be coupled to the corresponding USB couplers 33 of the computer facilities 30, 31, such that the speakers 10 may be coupled to the computer facilities 30, 31, via the adapter 20, with the couplers 26, 33, such as the USB couplers 26, 33.
It is to be noted that the circuit board 23 and the electric parts lo or elements 24 and the processor device 25 are received in the adapter 20, but not received in the speakers 10, such that the volume of the speakers 10 may be greatly decreased, and such that the sound quality generated by the speakers 10 may be greatly increased.
An extension cord 18 may further be provided and may include two couplers, such as the USB couplers 19 attached thereto, for coupling to the corresponding USB couplers 26, 33 of the adapter and the computer facilities 30, 31 respectively.
As shown in FIGS. 3, 4, the speaker and adapter assembly further includes one or more ear pieces 40 for coupling to the coupler 27 of the adapter 20 with a further coupler 41; and/or an optical fiber 42 for coupling to the coupler 27 of the adapter 20 with a still further coupler 43. The optical fiber 42 may be coupled to the speakers 10 via an encoder or amplifier 44.
As shown in FIG. 5, an adapter 20 may be solidly coupled to the speakers 10 with the electric wires or cables 12, and/or another adapter 20 may be solidly coupled to the speakers 10 with the optical fiber 42 and the coupler 43 and the encoder or amplifier 44.
Alternatively, as shown in FIG. 7, the USB coupler 26 may be separated from the housings 21, 22 of the adapter 20, and coupled to the housings 21, 22 of the adapter 20 via one or more electric wires or cables 28. The electric wires or cables 12 may be coupled to the speakers 10 with two or more couplers 14.
As shown in FIG. 6, the USB coupler 26 is coupled to the processor device 25, and may be coupled to the computer facilities 30, 31 via a USB transmission circuit 50. The processor device 25 lo may be coupled to the speakers 10 or the ear pieces 40 via a D/A converter 51 and/or an amplifier 52 and the coupler 27, and a comparator gate 53 may be coupled to the D/A converter 51 for obtaining a reference voltage or the like. s
CLAIMS: 1. A speaker and adapter assembly comprising: a) at least one speaker, b) an adapter including a circuit board coupled to the speaker, c) a processor device attached to the circuit board, and d) a first coupler coupled to the circuit board, for coupling to a computer facility.
2. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first coupler is a USB coupler.
lo 3. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 2, wherein the computer facility includes a USB coupler for coupling to the first coupler.
4. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adapter includes a second coupler, the speaker includes a third coupler coupled to the second coupler of the adapter.
5. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 4 further includes at least one ear piece having a fourth coupler for coupling to the second coupler of the adapter.
6. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 4 further includes an optical fiber having a fourth coupler for coupling to the second coupler of the adapter.
7. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adapter includes a lower and an upper housings to receive the circuit board.
8. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adapter includes a converter coupled to the processor device.
9. A speaker and adapter assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adapter includes an amplifier coupled to the processor device via the converter.
10. A speaker and adapter assembly substantially as herein described with reference to FIGS. 1-6 of the accompanying drawings.

Claims (1)

  1. Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows Claims: 1. A speaker
    and adapter combination comprising: a) a speaker, b) an adapter for coupling to the speaker, the adapter including a circuit board, c) a processor device attached to the circuit board, d) a first coupler connected to the circuit board for coupling to a computer facility, and e) an earpiece, and in which the adapter includes a second coupler, the speaker includes a third coupler for coupling to the second coupler of the adapter, and the ear piece has a fourth coupler for coupling to the second coupler of the adapter.
    9. A speaker and adapter cGmbinatIGn as c,aiired in Claim 1, in which the first coupler is a USB coupler.
    3. A speaker and adapter combination as claimed in either of the preceding claims, in which the adapter has a housing that includes upper and lower housing members to receive the circuit board.
    4. A speaker and adapter combination as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the adapter includes a converter coupled to the processor device. g
    5. A speaker and adapter combination as claimed in Claim 4, in which an amplifier is connected to the converter.
    6. A speaker and adapter combination substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
