Abstract

A tubular adaptor 2 which enables twist drills 1 of a size smaller than that which can be held in the closed jaws of a drilling machine, such as the portable type, the adaptor 2 having a split along its length to enable the bore to close in when the jaws are closed to thus grip tightly the twist drill.

Description

ADAI'TO}, FOR SMALL DIAMETER TWIST DRILLS.
The invention relates to an adaptor for small diameter twi st drills of size usually smaller than i/16 inches or 1.5 m/m in diameter as tie normal the of drilling machine, such as the portable type enrich many handymen possess, have rounded inner ends of what is normally a 3 jaw clutch which 5. will only accommodate drills larger than 1|16 inches or 1.5 m/m in diameter.
The adaptor is a tube of aluminium or other suitable material of outside diameter at least or greater than 1/lG inches or 1.5 m/m which enables it to be carried in the jaws of a normal type of drilling machine, such as the portable type, which has a split along its length and fits snuggly 10. over the non-drilling end of the twist drill and tightening of the dri] 1 clutch closes slightly the inside diameter of the adaptor to grip tightly the twist drill to thus enable it to be used f or the drilling of small diameter holes in metal, plastic or wood,or any other suitable material.
A range of small diameter twist drills of sizes smaller than that which i5. can be accommodated by a normal type of drilling machine, down to about 0.015 inches or 0.38 m|m in diameter, each drill having an adaptor which fits snuggly over the non-drilling end of the drill.
The invention is exemplified by the sketches, figures l and 2 showing a typical adaptor fitted to a twist drill, whilst view 3 is an enlarged 20. view taken on plane ALA of end view 4. Referring to figure loiter 1 shows the twist drill in position with the adaptor item 2. _ 2-

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS.
l/. A tubular adaptor which fits over the non-drilling end of a small diameter twist drill to enable it to be held in the jaws of a normal type of' drilling machine, such as the portable tyke, which can usually only accommodate drills above a certain diameter, the adaptor having a single split along its length to enable the inner diameter to close in when the drill jaws are closed and thus grip tightly the twist drill.
2/. A tubular adaptor which has an outside diameter at least or greater than the aperture provided by the jaws of' the drilling machine when they are in the fully closed position.
3/. A tubular adaptor which has an inside diameter which fits snuggly over the On-drilling end of the twist drill to be used.
4/. A tubular adaptor for twist drills as herein described and with reference to sketches 1. 'I', 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawing.
