Abstract

A security bag has a series of holes 6 around its mouth whereby it can be suspended in a safe. Also in the vicinity of the mouth is adhesive tape 3 with which the bag can be sealed closed, after removal of release tape 4 covering the adhesive, by a bag closing device in the safe. The holes may be formed in tags or strips attached to the bag, Figures 4a, 4b, 5a, 5b Means may be provided to cause automatic peeling of the release tape, Figures 8a and 8b. To increase the capacity of the bag, its body may be wider than a neck portion in which the mouth is formed.

Description

i. Bag Closing Module - Special Bag Features This invention relates to an
improvement to the bag closing system (Patent application GBg910731.0. That system incorporates a mechanism that, for example fits inside a top loading safe, often referred to as a drop safe or night safe, which receives bank notes (or other valuables). It also incorporates a specially adapted bag to fit inside the mechanism. This new application relates to novel bag designs and manufacturing features to reduce the overall cost of the bags and improve their holding capacity. The previous invention required the bags to bc fitted with hooks or tape. This has proved difficult to automate and manual application of hooks is costly.
This invention (Special Bag Features) enables features to be put on the bag during bay manufacture (or by less expensive manual application) thus reducing the cost of the bag suitable for use within such a mechanism. It requires the mechanism of the closing device to be equipped with device (hooks, l-bars. thumb nuts etc) so that holes in the bag or bag attachments can close onto these. (Part A) In addition this invention includes a novel bag design (and possible manufacturing process! which increases the overall carrying capacity of the bag. (Paw B) And finally (Part C) a new approach to removing the release tape from the bag Part A) Adaptations to the bale to facilitate use/reduce cost: Embodiment 13 In accordance with the present invention, there is a security bag from which is attached one (or two) clear or opaque strips. Each strip runs along the entire width of the bag, on one or both sides. The strip is created during bag manufacture using a "Tape" or plastic sheet with the following features: Inside from one edge of this tape or sheet, running along its length, are holes or perforations a few mm across. When attached to the bag. these holes enable the metal hooking device on the mechanism (taking the form of hooks, l-bars, thumb nuts etc) to hold the bag in position.
To adhere this "Tape" to the bag, one may heat seal it or apply an adhesive down one side.
(This can be done during bag manulicture or before during the tape manufacture). The "Tape" may even have adhesive coated entirely across its width. Attachment of the "Tape" to Me bag is by adhesives sticky tape, heat, u.v. or pressure sealing or some other mechanism.
This may involve applying some poor adhesive material to the bag to ensure part of the tape does not stick to the bag.
During the process of bag manufacture, the tape will adhere to the bag, and be cut as the bag is cut thereby creating a strip running across the width of the bag.
Figure I shows a typical security bag as if mounted in a closing module win the mouth held open. The bag itself 1, the bag opening (mouth) is indicated by 2, the security tape 3, and the release tape (shaded! 4. Lee strips on the front and back of the bag are the "Tape" showing the punch holes/perforations 6.
Embodiment 2) A second method is to extend the top edge of the bag (during the bag manufacturing process3 and punch (2 or more) holes or perforations near the top edge of the bag extension (Figure 2; holes shown as 7). On the side that forms the security tape this could be done by making it wider than usual (shown as 8) and the punch holes (2 or more) for fixing to the mechanism will run near the top edge shown as 9). The tamper evident security tape is normally welded or glued to the bag. Adhesive would be leR off the top edge.
L. Embodiment 3) A third method is to punch holes (2 or more) just below the bottom edge of the tamper evident security tape. (See figure 3, holes shown as 9) This line of holes would provide a way of fixing into the hooking device.
Embodiment 4) The application of tags (with holes) to the bag either manually or automatically which then fix into the hooking device on the mechanism. These tags may be pointing upwards or down and the fixings to the mechanism will be according. (See figure 4a.
tags 10 shown holes upwards and Fig. 4b tags 10 shown holes downwards) Embodiment 53 The application of strips (with holes) to the bag either manually or automatically which then fix into the hooting device. These strips may be pointing upwards or down and the fixings to the mechanism will be according. (See figure 5a and 5b strips shown as 1}) Necessarv adaptations to the mechanism: The alterations to the bag dosing device require of a hooking device which would comprise a flat plate or plates with upward pointing hooks or Tears etc. This plate(s) would fit to the fixed and closing plates of the bag closing mechanism (previous patent application). In addition it is envisaged that dependent on the embodiment slots would need to be placed in the plates to enable the tags, strips, tapes etc to book on correctly. (See figure 6a 6b and 6c closing plates are shown as 12 and fixing devices as 13, 6a shows the system with tags, 6b with perforations and the fixing devices inwards and 6c with Me top of the bag folded over and fixed onto the fixing devices) Part B3 Adaptations to the Bag to increase carrvm capacity A normally produced tamper evident security bag is a rectangle viewed in plan. Such a shape does not maximise the carrying capacity of a bag inside a safe. It is envisaged therefore that there is a bag shaped (in plan) with a narrower top than rest of the body. The width of the top is still regulated by the width of the Bag Closing Mechanism. But the rest of Me body widens out thus increasing its carrying capacity. This has never been done before in security bag manufachre It is envisaged that this could be achieved by building a heat seal bar (in plan) s'oaped like a tuning fork. llous on the final seal and cutting process of automated bag manufacture a slug of the top of the bag is removed. It could also be achieved by desigl.ung a tool before Me final cut and seal which seals a 3 sides of a rectangle and cuts out the inner piece of bag (or leaves it with perforations for easy removal).
Figure 7a. shows in plan the shape of a security bag (1) made in this way, Figure 7b. the heat sealing knife shape (14) or 7c. a special tool (15) to heat seal and cut/punch out a section. In the diagram they are shown as single seal. Often these are formed with a twin seal.
Part C) "Auto Peels Release tape It is envisaged that a double folded release tape (in the shape of a reversed "Z" - or S) would mean that on closing the cassette the top edge of the release tape catches onto the cassette and it peels off automatically. This may be further facilitated by some slots length wise in the final fold that catch on the top of the cassette on shutting. This may also be achieved by punching holes in the release tape so these fit onto hooks which pull the tape off either when the cassette is pushed into the framework or as the bag is sealed. Figure 8a slows a plan of the "Auto Peel" release tape 16 on the Security Tape 3 or 8 and showing the adhesive 17 Figure 6b. is a sketch showing how it coMects with the top plate 18 of the bag closing device and the "Auto Peel" release tape 14. As the front plate 12 is closed (moving right) the release tape catches on the top plate and it peels off.
Applicatiors The implementations of this invention are similar to those of the original bag closing module patent application (these are repeated in summarised form below) but the overall system cost is reduced substantially since the bag modifications can be applied in the bag manufacturing process. In one implementation the bag closing mechanism with "Special Bag" might be positioned at the end of a pneumatic air tube system and the "Special Bag" inside receive smaller containers containing banknotes or other valuables.
In a second implementation the mechanism might be built on a framework mat connects inside a cash deposit machine. Deposits fall automatically into the "Special Bag". When the machine is emptied the bag is shut, pulled out. Then the framework is pulled out and loaded with a new bag.
In a third implementation the module might simply be incorporated inside a drop safe which may be protected by a smoke or dye system.
In a foul rctaul or banking implemcutaton the mechanism would be inside a safe or strong box, with the cassette module inside it. This would connect and be secured to the back of a simple bank note counting or processing machine (not shown). Each bank note would be counted and then fed down through the hole in the safe through a chute into the "Special Bag".
