Abstract
A kneepad comprises a felt layer 3, a waterproofed felt layer 4 and a rubber layer 5. The kneepad is secured to the wearer's leg using felt straps 1 having at their free ends 'hook and loop' fastening tape 2.
Description

KNEE PAI)
The invention relates to a kneepad, which is made of felt material, using Velcro (Rho) fasting straps to hold the pad in place.
Such kneepads do exist in the market place but suffer from distinct disadvantages, such that they are usually made of materials that are expensive to manufacture, ultimately increasing the selling price, which can make potential customers dismiss the purchase of a protective kneepad. Kneepads made of rubber although waterproof, tend to be heavy, and bulky making it highly uncomfortable once knelt down.
An object of this invention is to provide a knee pad which is comfortable to wear and use, light, waterproofed, easily adjusted and reasonably priced, thus enabling DIY enthusiasts, and self employed tradesman to be able to feel the benefits of protective equipment. Accordingly, this invention provides a protective kneepad, made from felt material to provide durability for outside use, and added comfort for the user. The kneepad would (RTM) include Velcrofasteners making the pad both light and easily adjustable for different users. It would also be waterproofed for use outdoors, constructed from waterproofed Hydro-Felt' coated with a layer of rubber material, similar to that found in the construction of Wellington boots.
Preferably the straps used in attaching the pad to the leg would be made out of a hardwearing waterproof felt material, but may instead be made of an equally
hardwearing elastic strap, ensuring resistance to both continuous use and adverse working conditions.
The preferred aspects and construction elements of the kneepad would be as follows: FIG 1: - Indicates the construction of the kneepad: 1. Felt straps to secure the pad to the leg / knee 2. Showing the Velcro, fasteners attached to either end of the felt straps.
3. The main body of the pad. A felt cushion approximately 1 5mm thick.
4. Waterproof felt pad approx 3mm thick, aids in cushioning the knee and securing the felt straps between the main felt pad, and the waterproofed felt. 5. Waterproofed Rubber, approx 3mm thick.
FIG 2: - Shows the kneepad attached to the leg / knee.
FIG 3: - Reverse view of kneepad showing fastening straps, and the different layers of felt material.
FIG 4: - Side view of kneepad.
FIG 5: - Front / Side view of kneepad.
(my The pad 3, is attached to the knee using Velcrofasteners 2, attached to straps 1, the pad 3, is also attached to a further felt 'hydra' pad 4, this also aids in securing the
straps 1, between pad 3 and 4. Finally, pad 4 is cover moulded with a thin layer of waterproof rubber 5.
Claims (5)
1. A knee pad constructed from waterproof felt material affixed to the users knee by felt straps and Velcrofasteners.
2. The pad can be cover moulded with waterproof rubber, increasing the pads durability, in various weather conditions.
3. The pads basic design can be further adapted for other parts of the body, such as elbow protection.
4. The pad can also be adapted to for use in other target markets such as protective sports wear.
5. Felt pads can be produced in a variety of differing colours, making them more attractive to sports enthusiasts.
