Abstract

A BEDDING PRODUCT

THIS INVENTION relates to a bedding product, and in particular 5 concerns a textile product whose appearance can be altered quickly and easily.

Many people are inclined to make short or long term alternations to the appearance of their bedroom, for instance, by hanging a pair of winter curtains to replace a summer pair, or by hanging wallpaper of a different colour. Often, 10 the change will upset the aesthetic co-ordination of the bedroom, particularly with respect to the bedding, and this may necessitate the purchase of new bedding, or constant swapping between alternative sets of bedding, while unused bedding occupies valuable cupboard space.

15 It is an object of the present invention to seek to alleviate the above difficulties. Accordingly, one aspect of the present invention provides a bedding product comprising: a bedding item; and one or more removable decorations, 20 co-operating fastening devices being respectively provided on the bedding item and the one or more decorations to fasten the bedding item and the one or more decorations together.

Advantageously, the co-operating fastening devices comprise a press 25 stud.

Alternatively, the co-operating fastening devices comprise respective areas of fabric which may be removably fastened to each other upon pressing the areas of fabric together.

( Preferably, the co-operating fastening devices comprise respective areas of a hook-and-loop fabric.

5 Conveniently, the bedding item comprises a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, a duvet cover, a bedspread, a valance, a pillowcase, a throw or a bolster.

Advantageously, the bedding product comprises a plurality of removable decorations. Preferably, the bedding product comprises two or more interchangeable sets of removable decorations.

Another aspect of the present invention provides a pack comprising: a 15 bedding item; and a plurality of interchangeable sets of removable decorations, co-operating fastening devices being respectively provided on the bedding item and the decorations to fasten the bedding item and the decorations together.

In order that the present invention may be more readily understood, 20 embodiments thereof will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying Figure which shows a bedding product embodying the present invention.

The Figure shows a duvet cover 1 of a conventional type, which 25 comprises two rectangles of fabric sewn to one another along three edges 2 thereof, with the fourth edge 3 being left at least partly open but provided with a plurality of press studs 4 to allow the fourth edge 3 to be closed. It will be understood that the open fourth edge 3 allows a user to place a duvet inside the duvet cover 1.

( Arranged on a front face 5 of the duvet cover 1 are two rows of male press stud halves 6, which rows extend along the duvet cover l in a direction substantially parallel to the fourth edge 3 thereof, and are provided roughly one | 5 third of the way from the fourth edge 3 of the duvet cover 1 to the opposite I edge thereof.

The male press stud halves 6 may be attached to the duvet cover 1 by any suitable method. For instance, the male press stud halves 6 may be sewn, 10 glued or welded to the front face 5 of the duvet cover 1.

A plurality or removable decorations 7 are provided, each of the removable decorations 7 comprising a female press stud half and a decorative portion. The female press stud halves of the removable decorations 7 are adapted to be removably fastenable to the male press stud halves 6, to secure the removable decorations 7 to the duvet cover 1.

Of course, the removable decorations 7 may be provided with male press stud halves, and the duvet cover 1 may be provided with female press stud 20 halves, as an alternative to the above arrangement.

The decorative portions of the removable decorations 7 may take any form, or carry any pattern, that is desired. For instance, the decorative portions of the removable decorations 7 may each be in the shape of an animal or toy, 25 and it is envisaged that this would be particularly appropriate for children's bedding. Alternatively, the decorative portions of the removable decorations 7 may be of regular shape, but of a desired colour, so as to contrast pleasingly with the colour of the duvet cover I itself, or to compliment, for example, the curtains, carpet or general decor of a bedroom.

( The present invention is not limited to attachment of the removable decorations 7 to the duvet cover 1 by press studs, and any suitable method of removably attaching the removable decorations 7 to the duvet cover may be 5 employed. For instance, the duvet cover l and the removable decorations 7 may be provided with co-operating areas of Velcro or a similar hook-and-

loop fabric.

Preferably, the duvet cover 1 is provided with several interchangeable 10 sets of removable decorations 7, which may be removably attached to the duvet cover 1, to adapt the duvet cover 1 to changing surroundings, or simply to provide an element of variety in the appearance of the bedroom. The duvet cover 1 and several sets of interchangeable decorations may be sold as a single pack, preferably in appropriately co-ordinated colours or patterns.

The present invention provides a bedding product comprising any item of bedding, for instance, a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, a bedspread, a valance, a pillow case, a throw or a bolster, along with associated removable decorations, and is not limited to duvet covers 1.

It will be appreciated that the present invention provides an effective way in which to alter the appearance of a bedding item, without the need to replace the bedding item as a whole.

Claims

( CLAIMS:

1. A bedding product comprising: a bedding item; and 5 one or more removable decorations, co-operating fastening devices being respectively provided on the bedding item and the one or more decorations to fasten the bedding item and the one or more decorations together. 10

2. A bedding product according to Claim 1, wherein the co-operating

fastening devices comprise a press stud.

3. A bedding product according to Claim 1, wherein the co-operating fastening devices comprise respective areas of fabric which may be removably 15 fastened to each other upon pressing the areas of fabric together.

4. A bedding product according to Claim 3, wherein the co-operating fastening devices comprise respective areas of a hook-and-loop fabric.

5. A bedding product according to any preceding claim, wherein the bedding item comprises a flat sheet, a fitted sheet, a duvet cover, a bedspread, a valance, a pillowcase, a throw or a bolster.

6. A bedding product according to any preceding claim, comprising a 25 plurality of removable decorations.

7. A bedding product according to Claim 6, comprising two or more interchangeable sets of removable decorations.
