Abstract
A roll-up banner display comprising; a roller carrier 2, a graphic banner 1, and a holding means 6 attached to the banner. The holding means 6 is releasably engageable with the carrier 2, and preferably comprises an elongate flange that is engageable with a slot in the carrier 2. The banner 1 may be fixed to the holding means 6 by an adhesive or adhesive tape along an alignment edge. The alignment edge allows the banner 1 to be wound onto the carrier 2 evenly without the risk of jamming the mechanism. The mechanism may comprise a latch 3, ratchet 4, and a torsion spring 5, which acts to urge the banner into a rolled-up form. The banner 1 is incrementally held against the spring tension as it is manually being pulled out from the carrier 2 to allow the user to "rest" from pulling the banner 1 against the spring tension during the procedure, or even let go of the banner 1 whether accidentally or deliberately.
Description
DISPLAY UNIT
The present invention relates to an exhibition display unit and to a mechanism for such a unit.
An exhibition display of the roller type typically has a graphics banner having a torsion spring to provide a return force to automatically roll and return the graphic banner back onto the graphic carrier inside the base unit, in a manner generally similar in principle to a roller blind. The spring lo tension also provides a tautness to the graphic banner when it is in display mode. A significant difficulty can occur for the user when the graphic banner is to be replaced or changed.
On existing products, it is necessary to pull out the graphic against the spring tension - which is hard work and difficult to do.
If, at any time, the hold on the graphic banner is relaxed or lost, the graphic to banner can spring back into the base at speed- with the potential of causing significant injury.
When a new graphic is to be attached to the graphic carrier, conventional systems require substantial dexterity and skill to align the graphic banner 25 correctly to the graphic carrier. If there is Fly misalignment, the graphic does not wrap around the graphic carrier evenly, causing it to veer sideways, resulting in jamming and damage to the graphic banner.
# # #
ee e e...e ee e In order to attempt to prevent this happening, conventionaelgraplie banners e have to be lined up with precision. This is difficult to do for example without a large layout area available on which to set the graphic out.
5 According to the present invention, there is provided a roll-up display comprising a graphic carrier and means to hold a banner, said holding means being releasably engageable with the graphic carrier and comprising an alignment edge for abutment with a banner.
lo Preferably, the holding means comprises an elongate flange which is engageable with a slot in the carrier.
Preferably, the banner is fixed, eg by adhesive or adhesive tape, to engage Is with the holding means along an alignment edge.
In this way, the present invention may provide an arrangement which provides easy assembly of a display, and/or easy change of one holding means and graphics banner with another in a display.
Furthermore, the present invention may provide an arrangement which provides simple, accurate and failsafe engagement of a graphics banner on a carrier. :5 Preferably there is provided a graphic banner with spring tension means to urge the banner towards a rolled-up condition and latch means to selectively hold the banner against the spring tension means.
Preferably the banner comprises latch means to engage with ratchet means so to hold the banner against spring tension means.
À # À. ... .. À
À Preferably, the banner comprises latch means engageable within ratchet means in any one of a plurality of relative positions.
5 Preferably, the latch means and ratchet means provides a plurality of engagement modes for each revolution of the carrier.
In order that the invention may more readily be understood, a description is
now given, by way of example only, reference being made to the lo accompanying description, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of a graphics banner embodying the present invention; Figure 2 shows the complete banner of Figure 1; and Figures 3 and 4 show details of the graphic banner strip.
The Figures show a graphic banner 1 on carrier 2 and a mechanism secured at one end and having a latch 3 and ratchet 4.
Torsion spring 5 acts to urge graphic banner into a rolled-up form.
In the mechanism of the present invention, the graphic is incrementally held against the spring tension as it is manually being pulled out from the Is graphic carrier 2.
This allows the user to "rest" from pulling the graphic 1 against the spring tension during the procedure, or even let go of the graphic 1 whether accidentally or deliberately.
: À..:.: À. it: À.. ..
The latch holds the graphic in that position, allowing ttt.usgr win ruddy tic continue again the pulling of the graphic against the spring tension.
Once the graphic has been pulled out fully, graphic rail 6 is pulled away s from the graphic carrier 2 allowing simple and easy separation of the graphic 1 and rail 6from the graphic carrier 2.
There is provided a strip 7 or profile of material which is attached and is self aligning on the end of the graphic banner 1. During assembly, the edge lo of strip 7 is made to abut the alignment edge 8 of rail 6 while the surface of strip 7 lies against side 9 of rail 6. Once this has been achieved, strip 7 can be easily attached (using adhesive or double-sided tape) to the graphic carrier 2 without any great accuracy, so making the whole procedure simple and failsafe. The provision of alignment edge 8 on graphic rail 6 removes the need for user skill at alignment.
In an alternative embodiment, there is no strip 7 provided, and the edge of graphic banner 1 abuts alignment edge 8.
20 Thus, the present invention provides an arrangement allowing easy, quick and reliable assembly of a banner I onto a rail 6. The present invention also provides easy, quick and reliable mounting of a rail/banner combination onto a carrier 2, which in turn can ensure ready changing between a variety of banners.
