Abstract
An electrical power supply for a portable appliance such as a radio. A generator, for example a manually driven generator, is arranged to generate a DC voltage. A supercapacitor is arranged to be charged by the generator. A limiting circuit limits the rate at which power is transferred to the supercapacitor. The capacitor provides the sole power source for the appliance. The capacitor is connected to a control circuit arranged to limit current flow to and from the capacitor. The capacitor and control circuit are enclosed in a casing which precludes discharge of the capacitor except through the control circuit.
