Abstract

A table tennis net is attached to the table 3 in the normal way. A second net 2 is attached to the existing net using vertical struts 1 which may be clipped to the net supports (4, fig 2) or to the table. The net may be moved up and down the struts (5, fig 2) to vary the distance between the two nets.

Description

-1- HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE NET FOR USE ABOVE AN EXISTING TABLE TENNIS NET

This invention relates to a height adjustable net for use above an existing table tennis net. It is essential when coaching table tennis to teach learners, especially beginners, how to control the ball in terms of height, length and direction. Whichever stroke is being taught the trajectory in which the ball travels is very important. Usually a low path with the ball passing as closely as possible over the net is required but for strokes using heavy topspin a higher trajectory can be appropriate. In normal table tennis coaching or play there is no clear visual guide available when learning to control the height that the ball is played above the net.

This invention provides such a guide for height control. It is achieved by means of an additional height adjustable net above the existing net. This additional net is secured between two removable vertical struts secured at their base to the playing surface.

This allows the ball to pass either between the 2 nets or over the combined height of the 2 nets.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective an additional net set up on a table tennis table in a position that allows the ball to go between it and the table net.

Figure 2 shows in perspective an additional net set up on a table tennis table in a position that requires the ball to go over the combined height of both nets.

-2- The two vertical struts 1 are secured to the playing surface 3 at their base using a removable clamp or similar means. In this example the struts are secured to the table by the clamps that support the lower net 4. The net 2, can be raised or lowered on the vertical struts 1, illustrated by arrow 5. The net can be secured at each end to the struts at any position along their length by, for example, elastic, clips or similar means (not shown).

Claims

1. A height adjustable net for use above an existing table tennis net.

2. The net in 1. is held between two removable vertical struts which are secured at their bases to the playing surface.

3. The bases of the vertical struts in 2. are secured by being placed underneath and tightened by the existing net posts or, if this is not possible, by crocodile clips, clamps or other means.

4. The height adjustable net can then be raised or lowered on the secured vertical struts to enable the ball to pass over the upper net or between the two nets for table tennis coaching or practice purposes.
