- 14 communicating web pages.
This further embodiment is similar to the embodiment described above with reference to Figs. 1 to 3. The 5 differences between this embodiment and that shown in Figs. 1 to 3 are explained in further detail below.
At step 303 of this further embodiment, the reader logs onto the web pages of the newspaper 4 via the browser 10 running on the reader computer system 5. The reader then enters the relevant section of the newspaper's web pages, for example, "Further Information Relating to Classified Adverts". The reader is requested to enter the unique identifier of the advertisement for which they would like 15 the further information.
The reader enters the unique identifier which corresponds to the advertisement that they are interested in. The browser submits this unique identifier to the server of the 20 newspaper computer system 3. The newspaper computer system 3 transmits this unique identifier to the server of the online further information system 1 and re-directs the reader's browser (not shown) to the web pages 12 on the server of the online further information system 1.
The online further information system arranges for the further information to be shown on web pages 12 and therefore displayed on the browser (not shown) running on the reader computer system 5.
In an especially advantageous version of the invention, the unique identifier is time dependent. That is, the unique identifier is dependent on the specific time the information was submitted by the advertiser computer 35 system 2.
The time could be recognized as follows:
- 15 Year Month Date of month Hours of that day 5 Minutes of that hour Seconds of that minute lO,OOO's of that second For example, if a submission was received on 12 June 2002, 10 at 3.12pm exactly, the following identifier would be generated: 0206121512000000. This identifier must be unique, therefore, if two other submissions were also received at exactly 3.12pm, the following identifiers would be generated: 0206121512000001 and 0206121512000002 for the 15 other submissions.
The format can be altered for different countries; for example, where the convention is to show the day, month then year, the above example would read: 1206021512000000.
The number of submissions likely to be received and the length of time before the identifiers can be repeated determines which time components are used to make up the unique identifier. For instance, if 10,000 submissions are 25 expected per day and the unique identifiers are renewed every month, then a unique identifier of 8 digits would be sufficient, the above example would read 12151200.
Although the present invention has been described in 30 accordance with the embodiments shown, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that there could be variations to the embodiments and those variations would be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Accordingly, many modifications may be made by one of 35 ordinary skill in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
