Abstract

A telescopically collapsing and folding washing line system comprises a storage unit suitable for concealment of the line in the ground. The system comprises a telescopic post, a clothes line and a fixing into which the post is inserted and is free to rotate when in use. When not in use, the washing line can be collapsed and inserted together with a peg bag into the underground storage unit (see fig 2), which may be tubular or box-shaped. The ingress of water and dirt may be prevented by a storage unit lid when the line is stowed underground and by the line having a rubber base cover effective when the post is upright. A one-way valve may be provided to allow any water which has leaked into the storage unit to pass out of its bottom end.

Description

23911 68
Collapsible Self Contained Washing Line The invention relates to a washing line of the type which is an unfolding rotary line which fits into a metal tube embedded in the garden.
These rotary lines are popular, but when not in use they are one of the most ugly things in the garden and are seldom put away in winter months due to many reasons (e.g. storage), hence the line corrodes.
This invention gives the user a convenient way to store the line preventing corrosion and an unsightly garden.
The invention provides an ordinary rotary line which folds up, then telescopically lowers into a tube housing unit concealed within the ground and closes watertight.
FIGURE 1. Shows a side view of the line in its extended state.
FIGURE 2. Shows the unit in its collapsed state.
FIGURE 3. Shows the cover for the cavity when the line is extended.
FIGURE 4. Shows the container for pegs.
FIGURE 5 Shows the telescopic mechanism.
As shown in FIGURE 1. the invention comprises of a telescopic tube (FIGURE 5.) fitted into the end of the rotary line to give the correct height.
From FIGURE 2. it is clear that the line folds up into the tube when not in use this diagram also shows the position of the peg bag (figure 4).
FIGURE 3. is the cover for the base of the line when extended in case of rain, preventing the cavity being filled up with water if the user is unable to collapse the line for some reason.

Claims (9)

-l CLAIMS
1. A washing line including a telescopic upright post, and an unfolding frame, which supports the lines and has a concealed underground storage unit, can be fixed into the ground,
2. A washing line as claimed in Claim I where the unfolding frame and telescopic
post rotates in the upright ground fixing.
3. A washing line as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 where the telescopic post and unfolding frame can be folded away so that the unit can be stored in a tube/ box underground.
4. A washing line as claimed in Claim 3 which when unfolded has a rubber base cover to prevent water/ dirt from entering the underground storage boxJtube.
5. A washing line as claimed in any preceding claim including a watertight cover/flap, which covers the underground cavity when the line is in the stored position.
6. A washing line as claimed in any preceding claim including a one-way valve situated at the bottom end of the storage tube/box which lets leaked water out only.
7. A washing line as claimed In any preceding claim including a bag for storing pegs which can be situated on the line when put up, and stored in the box/tube when in its collapsed state.
8. A washing line as claimed in any preceding claim which is made from metal and plastics and the storage boxitube which is made t'rom plastics material or metal.
9. A washing line substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
