Abstract

A telescopically retractable rod 3 fitted with a flag 2 is pivotally fixed to a mounting plate 6. The mounting plate may be bolted to a rider's stirrup or affixed to a rider's boot by a Velcro TM strap. In use the pole is lowered to a position whereby it projects from the side of the horse and rider and is extended so that any vehicles overtaking the horse are pursuaded to do so at a safe passing distance. When not in use the pole may be retracted and folded into an upright position where it is held by retaining clip 5.

Equine Road Safe This is a device that attaches to a stirrup or riding boot on the offside of a horse when the horse is being ridden on a public highway. It is designed to persuade a vehicle or vehicles who are about to overtake a horse on the public highway to allow safe passing distance as stated in the Highway Code. The device is made from stainless steel and consists of a bracket that attaches to the stirrup and holds a telescopic pole (with flag on the end) by means of a pivot. The telescopic pole can be extended to the required length to allow safe passing distance when lowered from a clip to a horizontal position. The idea is that the car would have to pull out passed the flag to avoid contact thus giving safe passing distance to the horse and rider. Should anyone not adhere to the safe passing distance they could risk contact with the flexible telescopic pole, this should be enough of a deterrent to avoid this happening. When not in use the telescopic pole can be retracted and clipped back into the storage position until it is required again

Claims
1. A road safety device including a telescopic pole and flag attached to a bracket by means of a pivot to allow pole & flag to be lifted and lowered
2. A safety device as claimed in Claim 1 that can be easily attached to or detached from StiTUp by means of a clamp.
3. A safety device as claimed in Claim 1 or claim that can be easily attached to or detached from riding boot by means of a Velcro strap.
4. A safety device as claimed in claim 1 claim 2 or claim 3 with telescopic pole and flag that can be extended to a required length when in the horizontal position.
5. A safety device as claimed in any preceding claim with retaining clip to secure telescopic pole and flag in upright position when not in use.
