Cauldrons ; surface-heating apparatus.-Vehicular apparatus for heating and tarring road surfaces is provided with a preliminary tar-heating tank h raised above a furnace j and having an inclined boittom k forming at one end a highly heated weir k<1> leading to a storage tank g also heated by the furnace gases. Removable perforated straining partitions r are provided between the two tanks. The furnace gases are propelled by a fan e through flues beneath the storage tank separated by a partition t, and by means of dampers u, v, w the gases may be passed either to a surface-heating hood, as described in Specification 235,748, or to a. chimney x. The. tank h, closed by a cover q, may be adapted to receive one or more barrels n hoisted by tackle o and resting on supports p.
