Abstract
A foldable shelter which is positioned over the engine compartment of a motor vehicle to protect a person undertaking maintenance or repair of the engine from inclement weather and to provide light in dark conditions. The shelter comprises a hinged aluminium or plastic frame 1 with a cover 2 of waterproof material which forms the roof and two sides of the shelter. Spring-loaded clamps 7 for attaching the shelter to the bonnet, roof or door of the vehicle are connected to the frame by adjustable and lockable arms 4. Lighting 6, which is powered by the vehicle's electrical system via the cigar lighter socket or by clamps attached directly to the battery terminals, may be provided in the roof portion of the frame.
Description
Auto Umbrella Description
This invention relates to a type of cover for an individual working on a motor vehicle. This has an aluminium frame (or plastic) with a water proof lining, rubber tipped moveable clamps for mounting. This also has lighting and is a mountable self supporting structure when clamped to a motor vehicle.
This invention solves the problem of people working on a motor vehicle outside when it is raining or dark or both. Mobile mechanics, auto electricians would most benefit from this invention. The object of this invention is to provide shelter to an individual who is working on a vehicle outside. Accordingly this invention provides shelter and lighting when clamped to a motor vehicle by the moveable clamps positioned accordingly to accomadate any vehicle.
The invention will be made from waterproof material cover on an aluminium (or plastic) 3 piece frame with folding end pieces to help with wind resistance and easy storage, it has rubber tipped plastic movable clamps. The lights built to the frame can be powered with the cig lighter lead from the frame to the car.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure I shows a view when the invention is lying on the floor with the underneath showing.
Figure 2 is a view of the invention when in clamping to a vehicle position.
Figure 3 shows the moveable clamp (ratchet) mechanism.
Figure 4 is the section showing the cig lighter and battery power adaptors. This is explained in more detail overleaf.
As shown in figure 1, the invention comprises of an aluminium (or plastic) fraTne 1 covered with waterproofmaterial 2 with folding ends 14, hinges 3 allow movement. The lights 6 are attached to the frame 1 on each side.
Figure 2 shows the invention in the position you will fmd it at its best use and most common use. Figure 3 shows the clamping tool 4 this is used to clamp it to the vehicle. This is made up of an sliding base 5 which has a locking fly screw 14. This allows the clamp to move up and down the frame 1. The main arm of the clamp 4 is connected to the moveable ball (ratchet) joint 11 which allows the top arm of the clamp 12 to be moved into any position. There is another movable ball (ratchet) joint 11 at the end of the arm 12 allowing the clamp jaws 7 to be moved into any position, this also has a locking fly screw 14 allowing to lock clamp jaws 7 in to position. The clamp its self has a stressed spring 13 which allows the jaws to be opened and then close tightley on to the surface connected to. The clamp 7 can also be locked extra tight with a locking fly screw 14. The clamp 7 has rubber tips 15 to protect the surfaces it is being clamped too.
Figure 4 shows the lighting adaptor, this allows power to the lights via the power coil 8 which is simply twin core wiring that can be connected to the cig lighter via the cig lighter adaptor 9 or the pos and neg clamps 10 that clamp directley on to the battery.
The frame 1 is covered with water proofmaterial 2 which has folding ends 14 for drainage and easy storage. This structure is held in place by the rubber tipped movable clamps 4. It is designed to clamp to the bonnet, door or roof of the vehicle to prevent the user from getting wet and to help visually in bad light. This can be had by plugging in the power coil 8 which
can be plugged straight into the cig lighter or plugging the clamps straight to the battery the invention is shown at its most effective and useful position in fig 2.
