Abstract
The hood 1 is a heat resistant fabric with a shallow tray shape that is contoured to cover a sole plate 2 of an iron 3. The hood is releasably secured by a locking means 4 which consists of spring-loaded push button 10 that engages with a heat resistant drawstring cord 7. The cord passes through a heat resistant hem (5, figure 2) on the upper outer periphery 6 of the hood and through an aperture 9 in the lock. The heat resistant fabric may have three layers: an external flame retardant skin, a central padding of heat resistant and flame retardant wadding, and an inner heat resistant and flame retardant fabric skin.
Description
( 1/6 Electric Iron Safetv Hood FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to an Electric Iron Safety Hood, embodying a Simple, 5 Quick, Popular and Cheap solution for the prevention of contact burn accidents to oblivious toddlers and others from momentarily unsupervised hot electric irons - that remain a burn hazard whilst cooling even after switching off.
TYPICAL EXISTING SCENARIO: It is the practice of many lone child mincers to 10 iron clothes whilst oblivious toddlers and others are around. Everything may appear safe until a distraction occurs - (door bell or phone rings, another child or something needs urgent attention) - the child mincer moves away from the ironing, the hot electric iron is momentarily left unsupervised and remains a burn hazard whilst cooling even aRer switching off. In that moment a young child choosing to emulate Mum reaches for the I 5 iron with disastrous results - 1 st and 2nd degree contact burns that may last a lifetime.
PRIOR ART - SHORTCOMINGS:
At present there is no specific product available on sale for the prevention of contact burn accidents to oblivious toddlers and others from momentarily unsupervised hot electric 20 irons - irons that remain a burn hazard whilst cooling even aRer switching off.
INVENTIVE STEP / OBJECT
The novel inventive step of the present invention is to overcome this deficiency in the market by providing an Electric Iron Safety Hood that is cheap to buy, simple to 25 understand how to operate, quick to use, and popular with child mincers concerned about the safety of young children.
Prior Art.- No Product Available: At the time of filing, a search carried out on the
World Patent Index showed no prior art for an Electric Iron Safety Hood for the
30 prevention of severe contact burn accidents to oblivious toddlers and others from momentarily unsupervised hot electric irons.
( 2/6 SUMMARY OF INVENTION: An Electric Iron Safety Hood for the prevention of
contact burn accidents to oblivious toddlers and others from momentarily unsupervised 5 hot electric irons, comprising a shallow tray shaped heat resistant fabric hood, having a contour shape and size sufficient to quickly cover (and uncover) the hot base plate of most domestic Electric Irons, and provided with a drawstring hem containing a drawstring cord, the two ends of the drawstring cord provided with a spring loaded push button operated (quick open/close) drawstring cord lock.

DESCRIPTION
- 1. Referring to the drawings, (see figs 1, & 2) in a typical embodiment of the present 5 invention there is provided an Electric Iron Safety Hood, 1, (for prevention of contact burn accidents from momentarily unsupervised hot electric irons), comprising a heat resistant fabric having a shallow tray shaped contour and size sufficient to quickly cover (and uncover) the hot base plate, 2, of an Electric Iron, 3, and embodying a quick hood closure locking and unlocking means, 4.
2. The quick hood closure locking and unlocking means, 4, comprises a heat resistant drawstring hem, 5, (provided in the upper outer periphery, 6, of the Safety Hood, 1), containing a heat resistant drawstring cord, 7, and a spring loaded, push button, (quick open/close) drawstring cord lock, 8, (also known as a drawstring cord stop, 15 as available and used on Ruffle bags, jackets and hoods), the two ends of the draw cord, 7, pass through an aperture, 9, in the lock, 8, which instantly unlocks to allow the two ends of the draw cord, 7, to pass through freely when the lock button, 10, is squeezed, and conversely instantly locks on it's release.
20 3. Preferably the heat resistant fabric comprises typically three layers - an external skin, comprised of heat resistant fabric material, (including flame retardant fabric material and plain cotton fabric), a middle padding layer, comprised of heat resistant and flame retardant wadding, and an inner skin, comprised of heat resistant and flame retardant fabric material typically "Protean" fabric.
Claims (3)
1. An Electric Iron Safety Hood (for prevention of contact burn accidents from 5 momentarily unsupervised hot electric irons), comprising a heat resistant fabric having a shallow tray shaped contour and size sufficient to quickly cover (and uncover) the hot base plate of an Electric Iron and embodying a quick hood closure locking and unlocking means.
10
2. An Electric Iron Safety Hood as in claim 1, wherein said quick hood closure locking and unlocking means comprises a heat resistant drawstring hem (provided in the upper outer periphery of the Safety Hood), containing a heat resistant drawstring cord, and a spring loaded, push button, (quick open/close) drawstring cord lock, (drawstring cord lock or stop, as available and used on duffle bags, jackets and 15 hoods), the two ends of the draw cord pass through an aperture in the lock, said lock instantly unlocks to allow the two ends of the draw cord to pass through freely when the lock button is squeezed, and conversely instantly locks on release of said lock button. 20
3. An Electric Iron Safety Hood as in claims I & 2, wherein preferably said heat resistant fabric comprises typically three layers - an external skin comprised of heat resistant fabric material, (including flame retardant fabric material and plain cotton fabric), a middle padding layer, comprised of heat resistant and flame retardant wadding, and an inner skin, comprised of heat resistant and flame retardant fabric 25 material typically "Protean" fabric.
6/6 - ABSTRACT:
An Electric Iron Safety Hood, 1, comprising a heat resistant fabric having a shallow tray shaped contour and size sufficient to quickly cover (and uncover) the hot base plate, 2, of 5 an Electric Iron, 3' embodying a drawstring hens 5 containing a heat resistant drawstring cord, 7, and a drawstring cord lock, 8.
USES: For quick safe covered closure (locking and unlocking) of an Electric Iron - a safe precaution for the prevention of severe contact burn accidents in the home, from 10 unsupervised hot electric irons - burn accidents to oblivious toddlers and others from momentarily unsupervised hot electric irons- (irons that are a potential burn hazard whilst cooling even after switching off).
ADVANTAGES: Cheap to buy, Simple to understand operation, Quick to perform, and 15 Popular among lone parents and child mincers with ironing chores.
