Abstract

This invention relates to an instrument for releasing or applying a liquid fragrance (particularly, although not exclusively to skin) via capillary attraction. A particular feature of the instrument is that it is possible to apply one or more different fragrances as the user chooses. The instrument comprises a non-slip base 1, on top of which a moulded base 2 holds in place a vial or number of vials 3 containing liquid fragrance, from which extend a number of tubes 5 encasing fibres and/or micro tubes 6. The tips of the fibres and/or micro tubes extend beyond the tubes and are used to apply or release the liquid fragrance which travels up the fibres from the vial(s). A plate 4 to hold the tubes in place and a lid 7 to prevent evaporation are also described.

Description

Fragrance Applicator Description
Background
In the present embodiment, the invention relates to an instrument for releasing or applying fragrances, perfumes and like substances which emit an odour or smell. It is envisioned that the instrument could also be used for releasing or applying other substances such as medicines or pharmaceutical treatment products.
The common methods of dispensing fragrances, perfumes are by hand from a bottle, using an aerosol or other pump dispenser, or via a roll-on type container. Such methods are limited in that only one particular blend of fragrance can be dispensed from each instrument.
The invention comprises two novel aspects: the method of application/release of fragrance and the ability to dispense several different fragrances. It is an objective of the invention that several different, separate fragrances can be dispensed via the instrument at any one time, and in particular that the user can choose which of the different fragrances (or what combination of the fragrances) to apply. In the present embodiment, the instrument is of a size that can easily be placed on a dressing table-top for application of the fragrance to skin.
In another embodiment, the instrument may be on a larch scale for relcashg scent into a room. Summary of the Invention
Accordhigly, the instrument comprises: ( I) a base which is designed to be non-slip and sturdy enough so that the instrument does not move when the fragrance is being applied; (2) a moulded base which is designed to hold he place the vial or vials described at (3) below; (3) a vial or vials or capsule(s) (which are removable and may be refillalec or replaceable) containing the fragrance or fragrances which are held in place by the base and by a plate as described below at (4); (4) a plate through which the tubes (see (5) below) pass. This holds the tubes h1 place, limits the movement of the tubes when touched and adds to the strength of the overall structure; (5) numerous tubes, each attached to/standing in a vial and extending upwards from the vial(s); (6) fibres and/or micro-tubes made of nylon, PET plastic or other suitable material and are encased by the tubes. The bases of the fibres dip into the fragrance and the tips of which extend beyond the tubes; (7) a lid which encases the entire instrument and attaches to the base may also be incorporated to prevent evaporation of the fragrance.
hi'
( The invention is designed so that the liquid fragrance travels up the timbres and/or micro-tubes via capillary attraction leaving a small amount of fragrance present at the tips of the fibrcs and/or micro-tubes, Dift'erent widths of fibres and/or tubes may be used to allow more (or less as the case may be) fragrance to travel to the top. The fragrance is then either released into the air, or applied by a user strolling the surface of the f'ibre and/or micro-tube tips directly onto his or her skin,.
The invention is designed so that it is possible to incorporate different "zones" of fragrance, for example a number of vials grouped together may contain a floral t'ragrance whilst another cluster of vials may contain a contrasting/complementary fragrance(s). Different fragrances may be Indicated for example by different colour coding of the fibres to create fragrance zones. The user can then' dcpendhg on his or her mood, choose which fragrances or what combination of fragrances they wish to apply, and how much, by stroking the surface of the fibrc tips accordhgly.
In the present embodiment it should be noted that several of the vials can be removed (with the tube and fibres attached) and used separately to apply or dispense fragrance. The base and plate can be moulded or constructed in such a way that these vials/tubes can be removed simply by sliding them out of the base and plate. This may be useful for example if the user wishes to carry the fragrance(s) around for easy application.
Description of'drawins
The invention can best be described in con junction with the drawings. he which the numbering corresponds to the numbering used above: Fig. I is a cross-section view of the instrument showing a break-down of all the various components. Fig. 2 is a t'ront-on view of' the instrument showing, all the various components and he particular how the instrument looks when fully assembled.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section showing the vials (3), plate (4)- tubes (5) and t'ibres (a). This is particularly useful for showing that the fbres dip into the fragrance held in the vials and extend beyond the full length of the tubes.
Fig. 4 is a top view of the base (2a), along with side views (2b and 2c). All views show that the base has been moulded to accommodate removal of four of the vials/tubes for separate application. Fig 5 is a top view of the plate (4a), along with side views (4b and 4c). Again, these views show that the plate has been cut to accommodate removal of four of the vials/tubes for separate application.
Fig. 6 shows several views of the lid, including a front view (7a), side view (7b)? top view (7c) and bottom view (7d).
