Oil-switches; switchboards. - In metal-clad oil-immersed switchgear an upper oil-containing chamber A, Fig. 2, is provided for the bus-bar isolating switch B, intermediate oilcontaining chambers F and F<1> being provided respectively for an isolating- nonnection E, G between the bus-bar isolating switch and one conductor J of the main oil switch and for an isolating or selector switch P between the other main switch conductor and an out-going cable &c. the main oil switch being removable in a vertical direction. The arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is for a three-phase supply employing duplicate bus-bars, so that two bus-bars isolating switch chambers are employed with each phase, the busbars passing into the chambers through oilfilled pipes R and being arranged in substantially the same vertical plane as the main oil switch. The insulated connection D between chambers A and F are thus duplicated being joined at their lower ends by bars E<1> carrying contacts E bearing on the main switch conductors J. These contacts E may be earthed by switch wiring E<2>. In each of the chambers are two switches P, P<1> connected to the contact O on which bears the other main switch conductor J'. The switches connect the contacts 0 to fixed contacts P<2>, P<4> passing to duplicate cables or other apparatus. The contacts P<2>, P<4> may be earthed when required by switch arms P<6>. The main oil switch is provided with a removable tank H<1> having an upper flange bolted to a top plate M carrying the contacts which in turn is bolted to the lower sides of the chambers F, F<1>. Lowering gear for the oil switches consists of a winch N and wire ropes K passing over pulleys K<1> on the switch links H<1>, the arrangement being such that the tanks themselves and the links together with the top plate may be lowered, in the latter case the isolating connections at the upper ends of conductors J, J<1> being automatically broken. The plate M carries the movable bridging contact-member H<3> with its operating mechanism H<2> which extends upwards into the space F<2> between chambers F, F'. Vent holes F<4> permit gases to escape from the tank H into the space F<2> where they are led off by outlets F<3>. Suitable interlocks between the various switches &c. may be provided.
