Abstract

The device consists of a standard bottle top A with an internal female thread that has a hole (B, Fig 1) in the centre slightly larger in diameter than a standard drinking straw F. A silicone disc (C, Fig 2) with a hole (D, Fig 2) in the centre that is slightly smaller than a standard straw is placed inside the bottle top A. The hole (D, Fig 2) is surrounded by small cuts (E, Fig 2) to allow the silicone disc (C, Fig 2) to expand and accommodate different sized straws. When the straw F is pushed through the bottle top A the straw F is gripped by the silicone disc (C, Fig 2) and will reduce the spillage of drink if the bottle G is accidentally knocked over or shaken.

The Description
The Straw Top 12'June 2002 As the father of' two small children, who severe at the stage of progressing from drinking out of infant cups to using a straw in a beaker, 1 quickly discovered how easy it was for them to accidentally spill their drinks causing a great deal of cleaning up I experimented by using a small empty soR drink bottle without the top on at first lout still accidents were happening. so next I dulled a small hole in the bottle top just alit enough for a drinking straw to pass through and put the top back on the bottle with a straw through it. The experiment proved successfiJI, the straw was harder to pull out of the bottle and if the bottle tipped or was shaken by the child using it the drink was less likely to spill. At a later stage I introduced the idea of a silicone disc inside the top to help seal the drink in and hold the straw in the bottle The Straw Top consists of a plastic screw-on bottle top, the type commonly used in the soft drinks industry, with a hole in the centre through which a drinking; straw can he inserted Inside the plastic bottle top there is a disc made from silicone which also has a hole in the centre for a straw to pass through The hole in the plastic top is slightly larger in diameter than a standard drinking straw making it easy to put the straw into the bottle and allowing slightly oversize straws to be used The hole in the silicone disc is slightly smaller in diameter than that of a standard straw and it is surrounded by small cuts, as shown in figure 2. so that it can expand lo accommodate different size straws The silicone disc serves two purposes 7 firstly it grips the straw to hold it in the drink, and secondly 7 if the bottle tips over the silicone disc will help to reduce spillage of the drink in the drawings you can see how the Straw Top which consists of the silicone disc C inserted into the plastic screw-on top A, is screwed onto the top of the bottle G in the same way as a normal bottle top would be The drinking straw F is then pushed through holes B and D into the drink in the bottle and it is gripped by the silicone disc

Claims (1)

  1. The Claims
The Straw Top I claim that my invention, The Straw- Top, will help to reduce spillages of drinks when someone who is using a drinking straw to drink from a bottle accidentally knocks the bottle over or shakes it.
