Abstract
A steering system for a mountain board comprises an axle F connecting two front wheels. In the centre of the axle is a housing (E Fig 1) containing compression rubbers H held in place by an end cap J. A slot in the end cap enables the axle to move in a vertical plane. The housing is attached to a swinging arm B. The angle through which the steering bar may turn is controlled by a linkage D, which is adjustable. The housing also acts as a shock absorber.

ROTARY FLOAT STEER
This steering design allows better straight-line stability than central pivoting axles, maintains consistent steering angle when incorporated with suspension and allows infinite preset adjustment to the steering angle.
The majority of mountain boards use a pivot steering system incorporating a solid pin. This new 'rotary float steer' allows for infinite adjustment from fast to slow steering rate, to accommodate different riders and different conditions.
This 'rotary float steer' system has potential for use with anything using a tilt steer system.
The float in the system acts as a shock absorber, to smooth out the bumps as opposed to a pivot steer, which simply transfers the shocks through to the board or main frame, which in turn allows higher speeds to be achieved with the same level of control.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the Rotary float steer' forming the central pivot system, with incorporated swing arm for connection to main body.
Figure 2 illustrates a view of the 'rotary float steer' from the side clearly showing the steering angle (or slot) Figure 3 illustrates a sectional view of the 'rotary float steer' from the front A locating plate is incorporated on the centre of the axle, allowing the two rubber discs, one either side of the plate, (part H. figure 3) to hold the axle central while the rubber allows the axle to float up and down, and turn on the preset axis.
The outer face of the rubbers, are fixed into position by the rotary housing and end cap (parts and J. figure 3), which in turn are held symmetrically together by the end cap retaining screws (parts K, figure 2) . This rotary assembly is then housed in the swing arm (part B. figure 1, 2 & 3). Pre set steering angles are determined by the positioning of the linkage arm (part D, figure 1 & 2), by means of threaded adjustment.
Claims (3)
1. A steering system that maximises stability.
2. Infinite adjustability to suit all riders and conditions.
3. Higher speeds achievable through more controllability.
