Abstract

A flood control barrier comprises a flexible tubular core 1 having ribs 2 and 3 on the top and bottom, means provided at both ends (4, Fig 2) for connection to adjacent barriers and non-return valves 5 to allow inflation of the core with fluid. The ribs may be of varying heights, sections and densities such that together they provide an effective control to seepage under the barrier. Each barrier may be provided with at least one non-return valve to allow fluid inlet and at least one non-return valve to allow the outlet of air, during inflation. A number of flood barriers may be stacked on top each another.

Description

DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a flood control barrier.
The usual method of flood control has, for many years, been the use of piled sandbags. This method is labour intensive, slow and causes major logistical problems to set up and store.
The following invention provides a system that is easy to transport and activate, and subsequently to de-activate and store. It provides a system that may be configured to match the area to be protected This is attained by joining varying lengths of barrier at various angle via waterproof connecting devices. The barrier is filled with liquid through non-retun valves mounted in the system. The lengths of barrier have ribs of various heights, sections and densities to reduce seepage of liquid beneath the barrier. The ribs are on the top and bottom of the barrier to allow inversion of barrier lengths.
Figure I. shows side view of barrier.
Figure 2. shows top view of barrier.
Figure 3. shows section 'ALA' of barrier.
Figure 4. shows typical layout of barrier (plan).
Figure 5. shows end view of interconnected barriers.
Referring to the drawing, the barrier comprises a flexible core I with ribs of various heights, sections and densities 2 & 3, and waterproof connecting devices 4 for joining lengths of barrier to increase length or change direction of barrier. The barrier may be filled with liquid via non-
return valves 5, one for liquid inlet and the other for air expulsion.
