Abstract
An underfloor heating system 3 combined with a sprinkler system for extinguishing fires are both supplied by a common water supply system 1. The underfloor heating system 3 comprises piping and a heating system 3 which is actuated by a pump 2 and the sprinkler system comprises piping 4 in a void space above a ceiling and has a plurality of downward projecting pipes 5 which extend into a room and are terminated with a sprinkler head having a glass container filled with alcohol which fractures upon expansion from heat by a fire in the room so that fire may be extinguished.

DESCRIPTION
IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO SPRINGER SYSTEMS
AN1)/OR UNDERFLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS
This invention relates to sprinkler systems and underfloor heating systems such as are incorporated in buildings to extinguish fires and provide heating.
Sprinkler systems are well-known, comprising a series of fluid outlets directed into the interior of a room, i.e. from the ceiling. The outlets each are provided with an obstructed end effected by the imposition of a fluid-filled head incorporating e g. alcohol. When heat is applied to the head, the head can be caused to fracture enabling a supply of fluid to flow from the outlets in the interior of the room to extinguish a fire.
When the room is centrally-heated by a water-piped system, a pumped separated fluid-pipe system supplies the central heating.
According to the present invention a sprinider system has a common fluid supply means connected to a plurality of sprinkler heads and to a central heating system, the sprinkler heads each having a heat-fracturing means so that the fluid supply can flow from the common supply upon fracture.
According to the present invention also a method of extinguishing a fire comprises a plurality of sprinkler heads each having heat-fracturing means for supplying tiuid in common to the sprinkler heads and to a central heating system, whereby when the beat-fracturing means is fractured fluid will flow from the common fluid supply pumped (Ref. 2 on Drawing No. 1) or fed to the fractured sprinkler heads for extinguishing a fire.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example in conjunction with the accompanying informal drawing No. 1.
A water supply (Ref. No. 1) is provided through suitable piping and heating system (Ref. No. 3) actuated by a pump (Ref. No. 2).
The water supply piping (fief. No. 4) is located in the void space above the ceiling of a first-floor room and a number of downwardly projecting pipes (Ref. No. 5) extend into the room from the water supply piping.
Each downwardly projecting pipe is terminated by a sprinkler head (Ref. No. 5) having a glass alcohol - filed container, normally sealing an end of the projecting pipe to prevent water flow.
Upon the application of heat caused by a fire in a room, one or more of the glass containers is fractured by the expanded alcohol and water will flow from one or more of the pipes into the room to eguish the fire.
Any number of floors in a building can be so protected by means of the invention.
