Abstract
A sack A with visual and chemical animal repellents. Preferably, the sack is used for refuse, and may have a closure F. The visual deterrent may be a colour or picture B, C. The sack may be made from any material, and have any surface finish.
Description

Refuse Sack The invention relates to refuse and disposal sacks or bags, commonly known as bin bags, of the type that are a widely used method of packaging waste materials for disposal.
Such sacks are well known, but suffer from the disadvantage that when placed for disposal, their contents attract the attention of a variety of animals that investigate and attack the sacks usually in search of food.
This causes the sacks to split and break, whereby the sacks contents are spread into the surrounding area.
Around towns and residential areas cats, dogs and birds cause the most problems; in more rural areas the principal culprits are birds and wild animals.
There is a particular problem in coastal areas associated with the high population of large sea birds.
An object of this invention is to provide a sack, which prevents or limits animal attacks before they occur.
Accordingly, this invention provides a sack that includes visual features and chemical features that discourage and repel the interest of would be attackers.
Preferably the sack is made of plastic material of one or more colours and finishes, but it may instead be made from other materials, and it will include one or more visual or graphic features on its surface, and it will be coated or impregnated with one or more chemical preparations.
The visual elements may include specific colours, silhouettes of predators, and graphic images such as concentric 'eye' shaped patterns.
Preferably, the chemical preparations will offend or confuse the sense of smell and/or the sense of taste of animal attackers, and there may be other features of the sack that may operate on other senses of the animal.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows a fronVback view of the sack with possible visual elements Figure 2 shows some possible shapes of the sack when empty and flat i
As shown in Figure 1 the sack comprises two sides, each constructed of one or more layers of material fixed around three edges to form a container or bag. The sack may be square or rectangular in shape as indicated E and D respectively.
The open edge may be shaped as indicated F or may have a string fitted or some other device to enable the sack to be securely tied and sealed.
The outer surface of the sack A has one or more visual features to discourage animal attackers. Possible features include colours and surface finishes A, silhouettes of predators B. and graphic images such as concentric 'eye' shaped patterns C. The sack is visually prepared over its entire outer surface so that, when full and tied or secured, visual features are still sufficiently clear and spread out to be effective even if the shape of the sack becomes irregular.
The sack material is impregnated or coated with one or more chemical preparations to discourage animal attackers. These chemical preparations act upon the animal senses of smell and taste and possibly on other senses.
The sack is chemically prepared so that it is effective when full and tied or secured even if the shape of the sack becomes irregular. The chemical features may be constantly activated or may only become activated once the sack is modified from its flat empty state to become filled and secured.
