Abstract

An acoustic quilted laminate, providing both absorption and attenuation, comprises outer layers (1,3) of quilted glass mineral wool sandwiching an inner layer (2) of heavy polymeric mass or of lead. The outer layers may comprise shot free non-combustible glass mineral wool quilted with a polymer spun fabric to eliminate delamination and fibre migration. The product may be finished with a foil vapour barrier or vinyl to give a more pleasant aesthetic finish. This strong and resilient product provides a cost-effective acoustic lagging which is rot-proof, odourless, non-hydroscopic and will not sustain vermin or encourage the growth of fungi, mould, or bacteria. The product is dimensionally stable under varying conditions of temperature and humidity as well as being compatible with all surfaces on which this product is likely to be used in normal applications such as vehicle engine compartment linings, complex jacketing of pumps and similar items of plant, fan jackets, removable pipe and duct lagging, acoustic screens, ship and boat engine room insulation, offshore oil rig equipment, compressor and turbine insulation.

DESCRIPTION
ACOUSTIC QUILTED LAMINATE
The invention is an acoustic quilted laminate and is the most versatile and acoustically efficient grade of product offering both absorption and attenuation with the facility to mould to complex contours without delamination.
The acoustic quilted laminate is a 3 part laminate manufactured from shot free non combustible glass mineral wool which is then quilted with a Class 1 polymer spun bonded fabric. The design of the quilt is four inch box which makes for an easy pattern to match when butt edges are necessary. The quilting also prevents de-
lamination and fibre migration of the glass mineral wool and makes for a strong and resilient product.
The product make up consists of a layer of quilted mineral wool, a centre core of a heavy polymeric mass or lead layer and a further layer of quilted glass mineral wool.
The product can be finished with a choice of Class O foil which provides a vapour barrier or vinyl to give a more pleasant aesthetic finish.
The laminate is dimensionally stable under varying conditions of temperature and humidity, as well as being compatible with all surfaces on which this product is likely to be used in normal applications such as, vehicle engine compartment linings, complex jacketing of pumps and similar items of plant, fan jackets, removable pipe and duct lagging, acoustic screens, ship and boat engine room insulation, off shore oil rig equipment, compressor and turbine insulation.
The quilted laminate is supplied in sheets and rolls or tailored to suit individual requirements and comprises of three separate layers bonded together.
Figure 1 - shows the side elevation of the first layer of acoustic quilt.
Figure 2 - shows the top elevation of the first layer of acoustic quilt.
Figure 3 - shows the side elevation of the finished product.
The product is produced by first quilting a low density glass mineral wool roll, Figure 1 NQ2 with a Class 1 polymer spun bonded fabric to both sides as in Figures 1 NQ1 and 3, with a quilted four inch box design, Figure 2. This is called quilted glass mineral wool as shown in Figure 1.
The acoustic quilted laminate consists of bonding three products together in three separate layers: First layer- quilted glass mineral wool, Figure 3 NQ1 Second layer - heavy mass layer, Figure 3 N 2 Third Layer- quilted glass mineral wool, Figure 3 N03
