Abstract
A method and apparatus for a non-BLSR protected layer 2/3 channel (323) comprises allocating a segment of bandwidth of an optical ring as a non-bidirectional line switched ring (BLSR) protected layer 2/3 channel (323) and transmitting a set of layer 2/3 time division multiplexed (TDM) traffic (353, 357) on the segment of bandwidth.
