Abstract
A dog collar comprising a main collar 1, which fastens around the neck of the animal with a buckle and eyelets, and a slip line 5, which fits over the dog's nose. The slip line fits through a figure of eight ring 6 under the chin of the animal and through four guide rings 3 which are evenly spaced with two rings on each side of the collar. A ring 7 is stitched to both ends of the slip line. A lead may be connected to the two rings. The collar and slip line may be made from webbing or leather. In use, as the dog pulls on the lead, pressure is applied evenly to the nose giving control of the dog. Use of the slip line may also curtail barking and biting.

CANNY COLLAR This invention relates to a dog collar.
Dog collars are well known, but suffer from the disadvantage of minimal control. There is also various types of harness been designed to stop pulling, barking and biting.
However, the control factor of these two systems either causes strain on the throat or severe strain or jerking to the neck from sideways pulling action.
An object of this invention is to provide equal pressure to both sides of a dog's nose giving total control of a dog and to stop it pulling; it also curtails barking and biting.
According to this invention, the control factor is a slip line and a figure of eight ring that causes a pressure and release action. At either ends of the slip line a ring is attached to were a lead is connected. As the connection of the lead is at the top of the head this prevents sideways pulling-stopping neck strain and jerking. The pressure is felt only round the dog's nose and mouth so it stops throat strain. The slip line also travels down a main collar through four'D'rings, two on either side of a collar again ensuring equal pressure on both sides.
Preferably the collar and slip line is made from webbing but may instead be made from leather. The buckle, figure of eight ring,'D' rings and the two end rings are preferred in metal as it is more durable.
A preferred embodiment of this invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which; Figure 1 shows in perspective, the collar, with the slip line in position over the dogs nose.
Figure 2 illustrates the main dog collar with buckle and five eyelets.
Figure 3 shows the slip line fed through a figure of eight ring.
Figure 4 illustrates main dog collar with four'D'rings attached.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figure 5 illustrates completed dog collar.
As shown in figure 1, the dog collar is mounted on the dog's neck by the main collar 1 being secured by a buckle 2. A slip line 5 is pulled from the'figure of eight'ring 6 to go over the dog's nose. The slip line 5 travels freely through four'D'rings 3 and finishes with two rings 7, one on each end of the slip line 5-a lead would be attached to the rings 7 (not shown).
Figure 2 shows a main collar 1 with an attached buckle 2 and five eyelets 4. This allows the collar to be adjusted to fit the dog's neck.
The collar 1 will be made in various lengths to allow for the difference in dog size (e. g. Jack Russell-Alsatian).
Figure 3 illustrates the slip line 5, having been fed through a'figure of eight'ring 6. The length of the slip line 5 will vary to fit different dogs. The'figure of eight'ring 6 acts as the controller of the pressure and release action and also as a separator to allow the slip line 5 to travel up each side of the main collar 1. The'figure of eight'ring 6 ensures a secure position over the nose as shown in figure 1. As shown in figure 1 the'figure of eight'ring 6 lays in front of the dog's neck once the slip line 5 is in place over the dogs nose.
Figure 4 shows the main collar 1 with the four'D'rings 3 attached, by stitching. The'D'rings 3 are arranged along the collar, to allow two to be present on each side of the dog's neck. The'D'rings 3 are there to guide the slip line 5 round the collar freely and equally. They also enable the pressure to be distributed correctly down through the 'figure of eight'ring 6.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Figure 5 illustrates the completed dog collar. It shows how the slip line 5 travels through the'D'rings 3 and the'figure of eight'ring 6.
As shown in figure 1 this collar stops pulling, by the pressure created round the dog's nose and mouth when it pulls on the lead (not shown) that is connected by the end rings 7. The releasing of the pressure occurs when the dog stops to pull. The'figure of eight'ring 6 allows the pressure to be distributed downwards ; this curtails the dog from barking and biting, as its mouth would not be able to open.
Claims (4)
- CLAIMS 1 A dog collar comprising of a main collar, where four or more guides are attached for a slip line to move freely through, a support is located on the slip line as a means of securing and separating the slip line from the main collar, at either end of the slip line a connector is attached where a lead can be connected, eyelets on the main collar provide adjustment in size of the collar and a connector is attached to the main collar as a means of mounting and securing it on the dogs'neck.
- 2 A dog collar as claimed in claim I where guides are arranged along the whole of the main collar where they are attached to provide equal free movement of the slip line on either side of the main collar.
- 3 A dog collar as claimed in any proceeding claim which is made from webbing, leather, plastics, metal or any other man made fibre or from a combination of these materials.
- 4 A dog collar substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
