Abstract

The luggage weighing gadget uses an electronic, mechanical or strain gauge weight sensing system, which displays the weight of the luggage as LED, as shown in 2 on the attached drawing, as the device is slipped under the handle of the luggage and pulled. The gadget may be made integral to any luggage, so that it will register the weight when lifted by the handle. The gadget may be set to tell the weight audibly, for the benefit of visually impaired people. With this gadget the luggage can be weighed without putting it on a scale or hanging it from a scale.

I HANDY LUGGAGE WEIGHING GADGET This invention relates to device for measuring the weight of a luggage, when or after packing.
As the airline or other carriers stipulate a maximum weight for a luggage, so in case of a luggage weighing over the limit, the passenger will have to pay excess baggage fare at the terminal.
This invention solves that problem. The device is slipped under the handle and as the luggage is pulled up, it will register the weight of the luggage.
The weight mechanism may be electronic or mechanical and may use strain gauge weight sensing system. In case of electronic system, the weight will be shown as LED display.
Figure 1 shows the weighing mechanism.
Figure 2 shows the LED display.
The device will work in such a way that when the luggage is not weighed, it will remain in the off position. As it is used to weigh the luggage, it will trigger the on switch. This will save the battery life.
The device may be set up to tell the weight audibly, for the benefit of the visually impaired people.
Electronic controls and the battery may be housed in the underside of the gadget.
The device may be made of metal, plastic or any soft materials for comfortable handling. One side of the body may be made adjustable to accommodate wider handles.
The gadget may be made integral to any luggage, so that it will register the weight when lifted.
A flash light arrangement may be incorporated with the device, so the the device may be used as a flash light.
The device may also be used to measure the maximum thumb or finger pressure that may be exerted on the device.
Claim: The luggage can be weighed without putting it on a scale or hanging it from a scale.

Claims (11)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A handy luggage weighing gadget comprising an adjustable sliding device to accomodate wider handles, as the device is slipped under the handle and as the lugage is pulled up, it will register the weight of the luggage as LED display or similar.
  2. 2. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 1 will remain in the off position, when the luggage is not weighed, thus saving the battery life.
  3. 3. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 2 may be electronic or mechanical and may use strain gauge weight sensing system.
  4. 4. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 3 will display the weight in LED, if using electronic system.
  5. 5. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 4 may be set to tell the weight audibly for the benefit of visually impaired people.
  6. 6. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 5 may be made integral to any luggage, so that it will register the weight of the luggage, when lifted.
  7. 7. A handy luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 6 may be made to generate a wireless signal, when the luggage is put on the gadget and pulled, in turn it will activate a mechanism at the check in counter and will display the correct weight of the luggage, thus saving time at the check in counter.
  8. 8. A luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 7 will house

    the electronic controls, battery and operating mechanisms in the under side of the gadget.
  9. 9. A luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 8 may incorporate a flash light arrangement, so that the device may be used as a flash light also.
  10. 10. A luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 9 will be made of metal, plastic or any other soft materials for comfortable handling.
  11. 11. A luggage weighing gadget as claimed in claim 10 may also be used in the medical field for the measurement of fingure pressure exerted by any person on the device and this will be displayed as LED.
