Abstract

A number of ducts, or microducts 12 are arranged in a bundle 10 in a polygonal arrangement inside a protective sheath 14 in such a way that the relative orientation of each microduct 12 stays the same along the length of the sheath 14. The microducts 12 may be colour coded help distinguish one duct 12 from another. To insert a fibre optic cable into a microduct 12, a plug 100 is fixed to the end of the bundle 10 which allows each microduct 12 to have a connector 26 fitted to which a blowing machine is connected. A cone sleeve 33 and key 32 keeps the bundle in the correct orientation. A guide body 40 has a number of layers 42a,b,c 44a,b,c which form passages 46 and points 52, which, when brought against the bundle 10 channel each microduct 12 into its own passage 46. The channels 46 have openings 58 which receive the connectors 26 which are joined to the microducts 12 and are held in place by a face plate (60, Fig 3c). A fibre optic cable may then be blown down a desired microduct 12.
