Abstract
A clip for a shower curtain comprising a mounting element 16 for mounting the clip to a wall and a pair of gripping elements 12, 14 extending from the mounting element. The gripping elements are movable relative to each other between open and closed positions and arranged to grip the edge of a shower curtain between them in their closed position. The clip is designed for use particularly at the head end of a bath. The gripping and mounting elements may be in the form of plates. The clip may be formed as a one-piece moulding of plastics material and may form a decorative item with decorative plates 18 mounted to the gripping plates of the clip.

Clip for shower curtain
The present invention relates to a clip for retaining the edge of a shower curtain, particularly at the head end of a bath.
Where a bath is equipped with a shower, the shower head being mounted to the wall at the head of the bath, often there are difficulties in keeping the edge of the curtain close to the head-end wall: in particular, a gap often occurs just above the edge of the bath, where the curtain is deflected inwardly to lie against the inside surface of the bath. As a result, water from the shower is likely to spill out between the end wall and the edge of the shower curtain.
I have now devised a clip for mounting to the head-end wall of the bath and for retaining the edge of the shower curtain, in order to alleviate the problem outlined above.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a clip for a shower curtain, the clip comprising a mounting element arranged for mounting the clip to a wall, and a pair of gripping elements extending from the mounting element, the gripping elements being movable relative to each other between open and closed positions and arranged to grip the edge of the shower curtain between them in their closed position.
Preferably the gripping elements are provided with respective formations which interlock, with the shower curtain gripped between them, when in their closed position.
Preferably one gripping element is provided with a pair of projecting formations, between which a projecting formation of the other gripping element engages.
Preferably the projecting formations of the gripping elements comprise ribs. Preferably one or both of the gripping elements are hinged to the mounting element.
Preferably the gripping elements are in the form of plates. Preferably the mounting element is in the form of a plate. Preferably the mounting element is formed with holes to enable it to be mounted to the wall using screws.
Preferably the clip is formed as a one-piece moulding

of plastics material.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
FIGURE 1 is an isometric view of a clip for a shower curtain, in accordance with the invention, the clip being shown open to receive the edge of the shower curtain;
FIGURE 2 is a similar view of the clip, shown closed;
FIGURE 3 is a similar view of the clip on a reduced scale, shown closed about the edge of a shower curtain;
FIGURE 4 is a section through the clip;
FIGURE 5 is a top view of the clip shown open;
FIGURE 6 is a similar view of the clip shown closed about the edge of the shower curtain; and
FIGURE 7 is an isometric view of the clip, provided with decorative pieces.
Referring to Figures 1 to 6 of the drawings, there is shown a clip 10 for mounting to the wall at the head of a bath, generally in line with the outer edge of the bath, for gripping the edge of the shower curtain. In practice, two or three such clips are mounted to the wall, spaced apart up the edge of the shower curtain.
The clip 10 is formed in one-piece from plastics material and comprises two rectangular gripping plates 12,14 hinged, at their inner ends, to opposite side edges of a mounted plate 16. The clip is fixed to the wall by means of screws e. g. S passed through holes e. g. 17 in the mounting plate 16, so that the gripping plates 12,14 project outwardly from the wall.
One of the gripping plates 12 is formed, on its inner surface and adjacent its outer end, with a pair of parallel, projecting ribs 13. The other gripping plate 14 is formed, on its inner surface, with a projecting rib 15. Each of the ribs 13,15 comprises an enlarged, circular-section head portion 13a, 15a. The ribs are arranged so that, as the gripping plates 12,14 are closed together, the head 15a of rib 15 of plate 14 snap-engages between and past the heads 13a of the two
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
ribs 13 of plate 12.
In use, and as shown in Figures 5 and 6, the edge of the shower curtain C is inserted into the space between the gripping plates 12,14 of the clip 10, then the gripping plates are closed together about the edge of the curtain C, so trapping the curtain between the co-operating ribs 13,15.
It will be appreciated that the clip which has been described is of simple construction yet easy to use. Moreover, the clip is effective in retaining the edge of the shower curtain against the wall at the head of the bath, and so minimising the risk of water from the shower spilling over the edge of the bath at its top end.
As shown in Figure 7, the clip 10 may form a decorative item, with decorative plates 18 (shown here in the shape of fish) mounted to the outer surfaces of the gripping plates 12, 14 of the clip. Instead, the gripping plates 12,14 may be formed to decorative shapes.
